Trenchant analysis

My answer is you're probably not going to get the answer you're looking for. It would be cumbersome and pointless to go item by item and debate each feature or function's ease of use or time saving capacity. Each OS wins in certain areas.

That's a very pragmatic approach to comparing the two and, as I've pointed out, Apple ownership is less about pragmatism and more about something else. Let's call it style. Not just industrial styling but a certain style in thinking and going about things.

Apple figured out a long time ago that style matters. Many Windows users, to this day, discount style because they strongly feel like it shouldn't matter when compared to things like price, performance and an ocean of choices.

And yet, it does matter because that's the way humans are wired. If Microsoft had bothered to pay attention to just about every science fiction movie or TV show ever made, the future of computing was always going to be slick, sleek, good-looking and easy to use. Duh.

But, if you're going to twist my arm, the best I can do is say the Mac's "even easier" DNA that appeals to me so much comes across in many intangibles and runs deeper than in Windows. That's the "better" in my opinion.

It's like how old money can always spot new money. Apple wreaks of ease-of-use and style while Windows is still awkward and somewhat uncomfortable in it's new skin.

For the longest time, Windows/PC packaged processors, software, hard drives, motherboards, memory and peripherals. Apple packaged a computing experience. When you think back fondly on things in general, it's the experience that you remember more so than the mechanics.

I don't get the impression yet that Microsoft, Dell, Lenovo or HP actually believe in it. They're getting much better at mimicking it, however.

I rarely quote an entire post but this one deserved it.

Windows based company for now, we are waiting for the new Mac Pro to come out then we will see about moving over to the Mac

PC...

Having to wait for 64 bit maya, lightwave, syntheyes, adobe....for a whole year while the windows version of those programs were all 64bit pretty much sums it up.

PC software generally is updated first and there is more of it.

Mac has better UI...better user experience as a whole....but I can build 2 PC's for the price of a Mac.

Never had a virus in years....been editing real time 4k (via cineform) since CS3!!!

Thunderbolt is great....but I get 280mb/sec out of my raid on USB 3.....so while thunderbolt is better....USB 3 provides more then enough bandwidth (for storage at least ) I can see how a rocket on a laptop is pretty sexy....

You never see PC users complaining about the non release of a new product......if you are willing you can build it yourself for 1/2 the price....

I have zero brand loyalty (other then some to RED) if Mac comes out with new kick ass towers....that's where I will go....but I am not sure if they can outdo what I can do myself....definitely not for the price

Was once with Windows and switched for the first Unibody MBP and will never go back.
I just fell in love with it and even if I'm heartbroken I can't get away from it.

I would always be biased to MAC for obvious reasons and having worked for Apple.
But for production use it is falling behind in the race of speed and scalability. HP showed the prototypes for Thunderbolt laptops coming out in the near future.
I have run both in tandem for years always opting for a MAC laptop for the OS(X) for any media, home use, and the whole ecosystem.
Syncing devices like iPads & iPhones you get used to the ecosystem.
This has always been the issue of getting what you want or being sold what you think you need.
When it comes down to it Ill always use whatever I need to get my work done.
Microsoft though has been doing alot of great things in R&D seems like they push should be about usability then just shiny OS.

Now it's Mac—and I won't go back.

Used to build my own PCs down to removing the CPU casing and hand polishing the copper top for better cooling and over clocking performance. I loved to look for components and build my own stuff. I would still like that very much today.

But once I started focusing more on content creation (around 2007) and output I gladly gave up the micro management of daily PC work and went Mac.

I have nothing against PCs but can't see myself ever going back. Say what you want about Apple, but they have some core values that I actually believe in. To me, that is the horse for the long run.

2013-2014 should be much better for Apple pros than 2010-2013 was.

That said, the MacBook Pro retina is a really well made computer.

I use to build my own systems as well, but since the unibody MacBook pros came out I just dual boot MAC / Win, best of both worlds.

With the rest of the camera industry in overdrive and complete 4K (and above) workflows becoming a reality, we need to stay on the cutting edge. I'll use equipment that can keep up with the pace and buy from companies willing to support the cause, cost effectively. If McDonald's decided to build a PC tomorrow that will ingest Dragon footage reliably, then I guess, I'll have fries with that. But that doesn't mean I won't go to Burger King either. I like making choices, and in doing so, I'd like to think we can affect change in the right direction. Hmmm, I guess no fast food tonight then.

Mac rules.

Windows is a such mess computer operating system just because I can't get online without installing a heavy virus protection.

MacBook Pro and a good enclosure it's a way to go...I work more than two years like that...

This example is also related to the latest battle iPhone5 vs. Samsung Galaxy 4s.

Errr... Windows security comes with the OS and is all you'll ever need.

Ive been building computers since I was in high school. Later, when I jumped into this industry 5 years ago as a poor kid (poorer and younger than I am now anyway) i was astonished that everyone was overpaying for hardware and was addicted to Apple products. Now... well.

I would much rather build my own tower and run windows... that being said-

Apple design and support however is solid on all devices that cant be upgraded, so laptops and mobile. I wouldnt give up my iphone, or ipad for almost anything.

Also, with Apple having gotten that jumpstart on LightPeak/ Thunderbolt, they are incredibly ahead of the game as far as mobile data management and processing is concerned. Just barely beginning to roll out on Windows.

Currently running a Retina Macbook 15" w/ Magma and Promise RAID as my main setup. Waiting to hear what happens with Mac towers this year.

Literally the only reason I would buy a mac tower, is because prores encoding doesnt really natively /reliably / officially exist on Windows. If it did, i wouldnt waste the money and I could use my homebrew gaming rig / business computer as my overnight transcoding station as well.

Ive considered running windows on my retina, but it doesnt seem worth the effort, because Windows => Mac data flow is much better than Mac => Windows in my experience.

10 years ago, whenever Apple releaseed a new Mac Pro or Powerbook I felt I needed it straight away.
That feeling is long lost, I miss it!
I never feel I need anything from Apple anymore...
I am still all Apple, but I witched to Adobe all in lately, still use FCP 7 somehow.
I am very disappointed in the way Apple is treating its ProPeople, we used to be the core.
PC may be my next maincomputer, even if I feel alienanted by it, I will not sit around and wait foever for a new pro computer!

I think it would be fitting if Apple stock holders and Micro Soft/HP/DELL/etc. etc. etc. etc. stockholders would disclose their financial interest in one platform or the other. That way we can judge if a person's evangelism for Mac or PC has monetary roots. '-)

Errr... Windows security comes with the OS and is all you'll ever need.

Glad it's working for you, but Windows Security received a dismal Protection Score of 1.5 of 6 in this test...
http://www.av-test.org/no_cache/en/tests/test-reports/?tx_avtestreports_pi1[report_no]=124558

I'll also point out that it was the only product out of 24 tested that failed this certification
http://www.informationweek.com/security/antivirus/microsoft-security-essentials-loses-av-c/240142986

BTW, Windows Defender used by default in Win8 received a Protection Score of only 2 out of 6

The last time I was in a mac v windows discussion we had to switch to safer topic like politics and religion because it ended up getting too intense.

Nerds... Sheesh... :P

Jim your turn please...which one and what is your opinion? hehehehe :001_cool:
