hey lucas,
quick and easy question...
i am not used to the mac to PC workflow

how is the workflow...regarding the formatting type of the storage.

what i want to do

shoot red
offline with prores
export single clips for vfx/titling as DPX log / or UC10bit QT from redcine.
do your titling/VFX
import these shots into the fcp timeline
export EDL
export audio master
export QT sequence in another codec then prores, so scratch has a reference file. the reference file is bigger then 2 GB.

Now how do i get all my stuff to the scratch station?
asfaik, if i use fat 32 formatted drives i would be limited to 2gb or 4gb files in size.

does the scratch station need this: MAC Drive for Windows

The RED drive and CF cards actually use FAT32 formatting.

This is the preferred formatting of external firewire/USB/estata drives for the facilities I've worked with who have been working cross-platform with Scratch or Red Cine and FCP on OSX.

FAT32 is supported for both read & write operations on both OSX and Windows.

If you want to use HFS-formatted drives with a WIndows PC, you can. MAC Drive is $50.

However - and do note this - file transfer speeds when using MAC Drive from the external drive to the PC will suffer a 3X to 10X slowdown below what you would get with good old fashioned FAT32 drives.

my $.02
