Hello everyone,

I have a Mac Pro trashcan that is connected directly to a monitor by hdmi. I am just getting into the color correction world and I was wondering if there was any benefit to adding this piece or kit to my pipeline?

Sorry if this seems like a silly question, still trying to get my feet wet in this world! Thanks!

I've done many times even from a laptop
works fine.
You just need a good calibrated grading monitor and away you go.
And you don't need a HDMI / HDSDI converter. The Mac trash can has HDMI out and good grading monitors also have HDMI inputs.
The Sony Trimaster is a great OLED grading monitor. But there are cheaper professional options there with HDMI.
Grading of the latest Mac 27inche LEDs is not a silly idea. They are as accurate as my 10000 dollar grading monitors. And more stable to honest. I quite often reference between the two.

The benefit of I/O devices like that are they give a direct color space output from the editing app to monitor without the OS or video driver effecting the color space. Depending on the OS and driver, you can calibrate the output from the video card to be accurate but it's harder. The I/O devices give the accurate output without having to calibrate the OS side. You still need to calibrate the monitor device though.

Thanks for the responses!

2 quick questions for clarification.

So there is a difference in color accuracy between the two options? But if I calibrate both sides of the chain properly it doesn't matter?

Thanks!
