  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

woow... finally the sunshine at the end of the tunnel that I don't have to go back to PC for video editing...

They claim you can run 3 4K monitors with the built-in dual GPU :001_tongue:

The best part of this is that it will probably won't be available until the end of the year! -- I am still working on saving for my Scarlet upgrade!

I'm curious about these Thunderbolt 2 interfaces. If I buy a Thunderbolt drive right now, will it get a higher speed with these new interfaces, or new drives with Thunderbolt 2 interfaces will come soon?

No, buy now get instant outdated Thunderbolt 1 product, unless you don't intend on needing speed.

Thunderbolt 2 looks optimized for most 4K workflows from end to end, so I will not buy thunderbolt Mac anything unless it is thunderbolt 2 on it, so they turned us into wait and see ...

That's a shame... But it seems that Apple really believes in the TB because he packed 6 TB ports on the Mac Pro... vs 4 USB 3...

Looks great? Looks just heavy enough to hold my door open.

Thunderbolt 2 is backwards compatible. So if you buy external storage where the drive or drives do not max out the Thunderbolt 1 throughput, then it will work exactly the same on Thunderbolt 2. If you buy a device that is limited by the throughput of Thunderbolt 1, then yes, you are better off waiting for a Thunderbolt 2 computer and a Thunderbolt 2 device.

It's cool, but I doubt it will be cheap enough to offset the cost of all the external enclosures we'll have to buy. In the old Mac Pro you could fit the latest GPU, Red Rocket, and a lot of fast storage all inside one box. Editing bays are about to get even more unorganized.

So basically this thing is a really really fast MacMini but to differentiate the product line they made it round. Why round? I would have been ok with an extruded MacMini, why go and make a form factor that makes no sense? Admittedly I tend to lack vision when it comes to drastically new types of products but I really don't see this lasting. Cube 2.0, just um, rounder?
