  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mac OS X Lion-compatible Final Pro updates coming in March

Must be true, 'cause I read it on the Internets.

Citing reports from HardMac, AppleInsider on Monday said Final Cut Pro could be updated in March or April of 2011. Perhaps some disappointing news for the true pro users, is that the updates may not bring high-end features those users would hope for.
(emphasis by me)

Jobs also said that the next FCP would be "awesome".

I'm not holding my breath.

My understanding is certain features require the new QuickTime built into Lion to work properly and since Lion isn't released until the summer those certain features wont be in the March release but will be in a summer update.

Could it be the gamma bug is finally solved? I'd pay top dollar for that.

Change "Lion" with "Snow Leopard" in that sentence and see if it rings a bell... :-))

We should not have to pay extra or top dollar for a Bug Fix. they should fix it and apologize. What is wrong with you people?

I drink too much and my wife says I talk in my sleep. What's wrong with you?

As for the bug fix - I was being ironic. Few people have derided Apple more than I have about this. I agree Apple should apologize.

As for paying for a major upgrade. I think a few hundred dollars for a complete rewrite of FCS in 64bit is a fair exchange...

That about sums up everyone's fear for the next FCP....

Oh hey Avid, didn't see you standing there....

Humm...

Drunk Again??. you said you would pay for the Bug fix not for the upgrade. I do not know of anyone whom gets/gives free major upgrades. well Red Does... but RED is REDevolucionary.

Even If

Even If

Did you already heard Jobs saying an apple product is "crap"?
:violin:
Seriously I'm afraid the next Final Cut will be oriented prosumer market...

Wait and see

even if it one of apple's products was crap (some people think so) he would say the contrary... and stand by it. even knowing he is wrong. look at Blu-Ray

Steve Jobs is a very calculated guy, since day one of his return, the purchase of Final Cut Pro was only to tout their build in Firewire and sell the Blue and White G3. The lack of Blu-Ray was to force people to buy an Apple TV and do all their digital content viewing via iTunes. I have no idea where FCP studio doesn't fits in anymore, Steve is selling plenty of Macs because people want to accessorize their iPhones and iPads.

No it wasn't Final Cut was a reaction to Adobe deciding to stop producing Premier for the Macintosh, something people think Steve is still pissed off to this day.
As for the idea that Apple thinks by not supporting blu-ray people will buy apple tvs or movies from the itunes music store? I don't think they are that naive as to believe that would happen.
Steve's official position on Blu-ray is that the DRM etc. are a pain in the ass and with the control they like to have on the OS I'm prone to take him at his word for now.

Adobe did not stop producing Premiere for the Mac until after Final Cut was released and it became obvious that sales of the Mac version were shrinking significantly, especially when compared to the Windows version. Apple's release of Final Cut also prompted Avid to withdraw Media Composer from the Mac platform for a short time.

Final Cut was, in fact, primarily written by Randy Ubillos (creator of the original versions of Premiere) and was due to be released by Macromedia as "Key Grip", a cross platform editing program. Apple bought the code, dropped the Windows version, tweaked it a bit and it became Final Cut Pro. The "Steve being pissed off" reaction you're probably referring to was his reaction to Avid creating a Windows version of Media Composer, which is likely part of what prompted Apple to acquire the Macromedia program in the first place, although there is, of course, no actual proof of this.
