Just installed the Mac GTX 285. Tried to activate the Mercury Engine, but the pull down menu is locked. So, what steps do I need to do I order to take advantage of one of the reasons to upgrade to the GTX?

Also, the whitepaper Adobe has published (http://www.adobe.com/products/premie...flow_guide.pdf) talks once more about the Red Raw presets, but I do not have them available...:confused5:

Please advise since it does not make sense,

Are you running 10.6.3?

I think for some reason the red raw presets aren't there in the trial. Are you running trial? If so just drop a R3D on new sequence button in the project window to get a matching sequence.

Cheers

Dave

Yes, I am using 10.6.3. I understand the preset due to trial (which does not make sense since that is what I need to test before committing), but why cannot enable the Mercury Engine.

Please advise!!!

THANKS!!! You are the man, big time!!! :cheers2:

Now that I have the Engine turned on, what is needed to make the sequence to have the 4K attributes? By placing an R3D is not working for me at all. It is in DV, and it really looks bad, not 4k originated at all.

Regards,

Luis,

Are you using the trial version by chance? There are some R3D features not enabled in the trial.

Yes, it is the trial version. However, I do not understand why since there will be many, me included, that will make the decision based on experiencing first hand the processing of R3Ds. But, I am not paid to make this kind of policies...

David said that if I "just drop a R3D on new sequence button in the project window to get a matching sequence". However, I have not been able to accomplish it, so I cannot attest about the real functionality of the Mercury Engine with Red RAW footage.

If this is explained step by step, maybe I will be able to do it...

I'm willing to bet money that this is explained step by step in the manual by people who make their living explaining technical concepts clearly...

That pdf on the trial limitations lists "Red Cinema" edit mode as something not enabled in the trial, so I guess you can't test R3D functionality. Odd, I agree.

I seem to remember that you HAVE to set sequence setting to match clip settings.

Exactly, Sydney. However, as pointed to Charles, it should be explained somewhere "by people who make their living explaining technical concepts clearly...", but I have searched and it has been well hidden by them. :out:

Or maybe I am just a moron that cannot look for it appropriately. In the past, I have been characterized by others as such, so it could be very well the reason why I have not found it. :bored:

Charles, I will also bet money (but I do not have much to spare knowing that most likely I will lose) that it is somewhere, but I was just trying to see if someone, as usually we do here in reduser.net, help each other by pointing a colleague to the right place, even posting links... :violin:

Nick, David just mentioned that your statement is completely true, but he also said, and quote, " If so just drop a R3D on new sequence button in the project window to get a matching sequence". I do not know what he is referring to, or I have not found it, as the "sequence button". Any concrete ideas, please?

Thanks!

I have tested this, it is impossible to open a RED sequence using the trial version of CS5, it won't even allow footage from say an EX1 to open, nor to have any sequence presets utilising mpeg formats - it's all to do with the licensing, which I understand, but absolute rubbish for anyone wishing to test CS5 before committing to buying.

Now I have the full install, I get very good playback on a 4k timeline using the GTX285. It will play 3 layers with 3D effects, colour correction, drop shadows, all very cool -

One large gripe: I thought CS5 was going to allow "continue playback whilst editing" I'm sure I read this somewhere - why does the wretched thing stop everytime I hit a key, it's SUCH a waste of time - please someone tell me there's a hidden button to turn this function on!

P.S. I'm on a PC.

Paul

Well, the button is called "New Item".

But I don't understand why the trial can't do R3D – RED has never been tight regarding their decoder. It's a pity that all the MPEG variants are missing, but that's not Adobe's fault – they would need to pay large sums to the MPEG Association for something they hand out for free…

I think is because the previews are rendered in mpg.
