I don't know if you've noticed but different Apple software has become much cheaper as a result of the Mac App Store.

Aperture used to be $199 (and still is if you want a hard copy with discs), but it's only $79 on the App Store

Also, you'll find the "Apple Remote Desktop" to be only $79 in the App Store instead of $299 from the AppLE Store online or in the retail stores...

I find it interesting the way all of this software continues to get cheaper and cheaper. Logic Studio used to be $999 and changed to $499 upon the last major release. I'm curious to see what's "in store" for Final Cut Studio...

Apple has for a while been decreasing the main application price and then upping the upgrade price. Go way back in time and you find apps from various companies for like 1500 but the upgrade is 150. Now you have 500 but the upgrade is 350.

I too am curious about Final Cut, not as much the price but the features.

be awesome if the entire FCS is downloadable via the Mac App Store...

NO MORE CDS!

And what's the price for Lightroom...

Still $300, and not [yet] available on the App Store. I like the new price of Aperture (mostly because I haven't bought it yet; if I owned it already, I might feel differently), and will purchase it once I get the chance.

Also a nice thing is on the Mac App Store, you download the software to each computer that has your iTunes account on it.
I downloaded another great deal, Pixelmator at 23 euros WITH free upgrade to the upcoming 2.0 version, and I could immediately download it to my iMac and my Macbook Pro.

BUT I also like to have a manual backup of all my DMG's, just in case if I have to work or edit somewhere without an internet connection, I can re-install my computer immediately. I still don't know how to get that from software purchased from the Mac App Store, even IF it's possible.

So I don't see myself immediately downloading a 55 GB FCS installation.
But for smaller programs it seems handy, I really like the Pixelmator deal.
The Aperture deal seems very nice too, but I have very little use for the program.

BTW, about Logic Studio: Apple has always offered its software very cheap, as a way of selling computers... Final Cut Studio was also very cheap in comparison with the competition at the time. Shake they also made very cheap (before discontinuing it).

I would think this is something else leading towards a dumbing down and prosumer approach to FCP. I hope I'm wrong, but this year is make or break for both FCS AND the Mac Pro.

I don't know if the App Store and the future of FCS are seriously linked or dependent on each other.

Apple also made Logic Studio much cheaper, but they also made it much better than it was, and still a professional program.

I do agree though, that the next update of FCS will be a make it or break it, considering the competition.

2011 the Year FCS Started to DIED... I Hope Not

2011 the Year FCS Started to DIED... I Hope Not

Well For FCS to be Competitive and ahead of the pack as thy used to be. will be very hard if not imposible. a few reasons why: by the time FCS ships CS6 will almost shipping too and way ahead of FCS. Possibly Native/Realtime everything including Native/Realtime Blu-Ray authoring/Finishing. Remember Steve Does not like Blu-Ray. So I would hate so go from 3K Footage to SD if I want/Must use DVDSP. actually I would not do it. that is why I went with adobe.
The Mac Pro updates will not be what people expect: some here are praising Light Peek and its posible/imminent implementation in Mac Pros. but it has just been announced by intel that it will be like any other similar technology presently available "coper base cabling. NO Optical cables means it will be subject to the same limitations current cables suffer. so, probably no 10Gb/s nor 100m runs. well you get the point there are more thing I could mention but... I let us hope we are wrong and apple prove us they are still interested in the Pro market despite their latest almost anti-pro user trend.

But does Steve like RED Ray? That is the question... :)

He should... RED Ray is as innovative and ahead of its time as Apple used to be with computers along time ago. so maybe steve still has some computer geek left inside and embraces the technology. because it its nothing short of amazing.
But If he does not like it and Oppose/sabotage it as he does Blu-Ray him and Apple will be dead to me.
Although I am sure REDRAY will be a standalone appliance, so I do not see how apple would have anything to do with it.

I'm sure if his iTunes could utilize the RED Ray codec, they'd be best of friends... :)

Well Not really.

Well Not really.

Not really because now that red patented it that means that stevo would have to pay fees and we both know that he does not like to do that. he wants to have the cake and eat it too. oh and when I say eat it I mean the whole damm cake. do you wonder why they (apple) come up with their own version of almost everything they would not like to pay fees for.
The Main Reason why blu-ray is not on the mac (some say) is because the fees are too high for him so he wants a better deal.
USB 3.0 Instead he wants Light Peek. etc.
