Hey!

Will be that possible, to mount M42 lenses on the Scarlet S35? Will be any ring for that? I have some really great M42 Full frame lens so it would be great to use them.

Thank you!

You will be able to select a canon mount when buying your scarlet S35. There are many M42 to canon 3rd party mount adaptors out there, with varying degrees of robustness. The scarlet canon mount will be extremely solid, and high quality, but the same currently can't be said for most m42 to canon eos adaptors. As you probably know these mounts, are "dumb" mounts, ie there is no way of electronically communicating with your m42 lenses from the scarlet body, so you will obviously need to manually focus and adjust aperture on the lens itself.

I can see opportunities for using all sorts of old stills lenses for particular effect. Old Takumas, Zuikos and Rokkors. Somebody call Allstar!

Awesome idea! An Allstar mount would be a much more robust way of mounting these lenses, and more able to withstand the rigors of a shoot, than a cheap 3rd party lens mount to eos adaptor.

Hi, thanks for your support.M42 adapter for A-mount has already finished before several months. A-mount for Epic/scarlet is definitely made but it needs to wait for RED team. Also A-mount for REDONE could work on Epic/scarlet by attaching a plate.

I believe the M42 mount for the Red One MX Camera is over due ! There are so many good m42 manual lenses that can be used for the Red One.

That's why our company is working to manufacture one for the Red One MX Camera and then for the new Red one as well

i have m42 to pl adapters on my lenses, and eos ones, its completely possible and already being done.

Can anyone recommend any m42 glass that's worth using? I'm thinking they'd give fairly niche/stylized looks.

oh yeah, i have a whole set of russian m42 lenses that are simply beautiful. my favorites are the Tair-11A 135m mwith 20 iris blades, of course the helios 58mm, the mir-10a 28mm, and the 85mm jupiter...

I have the Super Taks. Cool lenses. 50mm F4 Macro is one of my faves.

I think someone should post some wide-open .r3d stills of these bad boys... Are they all ~15+ iris blades? How are the mechanics (specifically in terms of marking accuracy)?

Mechanics can be spotty. Though all manual, most of my primes have a "looseness" I find a bit alarming, and most of the focus threads are dry and uneven. Bear in mind, many of these were made during the height of Soviet mass production, and so standards were probably lax. That said, optically, many of these draw on much older lens designs (think pre war Zeiss deigns), so their rendering can be exotic, unusual, and captivating. I'll take the uneven mechanics as a small price to pay for the lighting in a bottle some of these primes can deliver.

hope this helps.

Yes they're dumb, but m42 to Ef adapters are very well built because of their simplicity.

The Pentax M42 lenses I have found to have silky smooth focus. Focus throws are decent.
