I shot with the M-X this weekend, and it is an amazing camera. But I created looks in Redcine-X and then imported them into the camera, and they looked great. But it created a few problems.

1. The gamma curves seem to not be connected to the file properly...in that you have to turn them on after importing the look. The Gamma should be connected to the Color in the file so that every setting tweaked in RCX comes straight in.

2. When trying to view the RAW image the curves stay on, unless you page back through the menus and turn them off.

3. :emote_22_yikes:As soon as you try to to view the RAW image all hell breaks loose. After about 30seconds, the camera starts to act like a computer with low memory. It gets slow and sluggish, buttons and joystick don't react properly, and it doesn't display the image correctly and eventually it completely locks up, and/or crashes.

This happened on all three cameras I tried it on (A and B, and the replacement for A -- the side record button stopped working on the first one)...on every look file created in RCX. It however did not happen on look files created in the camera. Firmware was 30.5.0

The work around was to completely disable RAW viewing, which kinda defeats the purpose of the feature..and resulted in skating pretty close to the exposure extremes edge.

Please fix this...because, other than this glitch making you unable to view the RAW while shooting and lighting, I love this camera.

I have found that the look of the monitor output on the camera does not match the look of the file in rcx when viewed through red rocket on a calibrated monitor via HD sdi. That is, you see a nice image with decent amount of contrast on the monitor from the camera when viewed in redcolor. But when you bring the file into rcx and view with all the camera metadata applied (through the rocket on a monitor suitable for grading) it does not look like it did on the monitor. This is not even trying to use curves or anything of the sort- just a basic look. This means that to make your dailies look like they did on the monitor you must change SOME of the look in rcx. I really wish the monitor output would match and you could dial in a quick look in the camera and transcode with the camera metadata applied and end up with the same image. Isn't that the whole point of the metadata on the camera from a look perspective? Why can't these two things match?

Also, as a side note about the mx- i have found a lot less reason to actually view raw. Using raw exposure check and false color i can see where noise would be. Having shot a few quick tests I know the max iso i am comfortable with as far as noise goes.

Well I couldn't even get 2 x Release build 30 cameras to recognize the (Fat16 or Fat32) SD card loaded with the looks for RC-X....
Still trying to figure that one out.

Eric - I've found that using the combo REDcolor -> Redspace in RCX looks much closer to what you saw on your monitor during shooting. It still needs a little tweaking, but it gets you pretty close.

I had that problem at first. It took me a few tries but basically, you have to export a look to the card first, then eject it, put it back in the card reader and copy the looks to the PROFILES folder the camera creates.

Thanks. Ill have to give that a try, although im really not a big fan of redspace gamma!

I'd like to know from red why these things don't match up and if it is being addressed.
