Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am proud to report that probably the first commercial job outside of Social Network was shot last weekend with an M-X camera, #0031.
Crash was the DP and the legendary Hip Hop Music Video (and feature too) Director Chris Robinson was behind the helm.
Crash originally contacted me last week wondering when I was getting my camera back and I told him most likely Fri or Saturday. He said, if you get it friday then we can shoot the new Lil Wayne & Eminem job with it. He told me that it was a very low light treatment and that M-X would be perfect for it.
However, he said that Chris wanted to shoot it with Film...
after a few emails and some links to finished jobs that have been shot with my camera, we got the greenlight provided I can deliver the M-X camera. Since I got my camera in early, I was able to get the camera in time for the Prep.
I picked the camera up after I wrapped Thursday night, Thank you Brian for staying late, then i immediately went to Hollywood and highland and shot some tests with a R1 and my new M-X.(i will post the footage soon, it has been hard to finish it as i have worked the last 9 days straight and I have a 6AM call 45 miles away in the morning).
Fast forward to Saturday afternoon,we had a late call in a sound stage far outside the studio zone for security reasons where we shot Lil Wayne and Eminem all day on green screen with a second unit shooting phantom footage.
the next night we shot the background action for the GS shots and it was a lot of fun. we were in the warehouse district of downtown la where we closed down several streets. 250 extras from 4pm to 4am all shot with the camera at 800 asa on master primes. the footage looks amazing which we will share with you when the video is released. crash and chris were very impressed with the camera and after the video chris sent me a note saying, " I now shoot RED", which is a great big victory for RED considering all the work he does and all the high profile artists he shoots.
OK more later...
<EDIT>
so i just got my camera back from red a couple of hours ago. i had some ports that were questionable and my UI LCD was slightly damaged so I paid to have them fixed. but when Brian told me thursday that these problems were found with my camera, i told him not to worry because i needed the body for the lil wayne job, but that i would return it monday to be fixed. so i sent it back on monday and just got it back....guess what...they stamped mysterium X on the side....kick ass!, even though the chip was upgraded for the lil wayne job, they did not have the time to stamp it...so here is a picture...notice the miles on the camera!!!
