There's been lots of back focus devices coming out this year -- IB/E NULL, Optitek Optimator, Denz FDC, UniQ Diascope... But I haven't seen this one mentioned.

Lumacheck, from Luma Tech (of Illumina lens fame). $1595.

Looks interesting, attractive price, wonder how it stacks up against the Null lens...

Mmm that price fits my wallet just as the Red Null... Have you mailed them about the in and outs Nils?

No, I haven't.... I know Fred of FJS International is on this forum, so I was kind of hoping for him to chime in... Or others in the know.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate this special day!

Regarding the Lumacheck operation. I will have a user's guide shortly. In the meantime here is what I do have:

"LUMACHECK is a small, sophisticated tool.It is indispensible for checking and adjusting lens flange to sensor distance (camera back focus) in digital cameras equipped with PL mounts. The built-in collimator-microscope and internal LED light source let you focus clearly on actual sensor pixels.

An integrated optical infinity reference and micrometer show the correct direction and amount to adjust your lens flange within a range of +/- 0.05mm

Total accuracy of your settings will be within 5 microns (0.0005mm)

No Need For:
Expensive HD external monitors
Distant infinity targets
External power supply
Specialized tech help"

Hope this helps.
Orders and reservations are already in (from all over the world)

The LumaCheck offers a big bang for little bucks.

The LumaCheck will be available for viewing during the open house Dec 11th in Miami, Florida for those who plan on attending to see the debut of the new super 35mm Illumina lenses. The LumaCheck units on display are already sold but the owners are kind enough to let us show them during the open house.

The new Illumina lenses include an 18mm,25mm,35mm,50mm,85mm and all are T1.3. Made at the LOMO factory with German Schott glass...light weight...all 95mm fronts...with great specs.

The designers are already working on plans for a wider angle lens to add to the set to be followed by a 135mm lens. Rumors also have it that a brand new set of anamorphics are in the works. Exciting times! Many thanks to RED and the thousands of proud owners for spurring the resurgence in lens technology and manufacturing. In my 40 years as a cameraman I have never seen such excitement and "focus" on one of the most important elements necessary for the creative capturing of light and images. Let us all hope that the economy becomes stronger to enable the trend to continue.
