Probably already been flagged here but the new Netflix shot, Luke Cage, is superbly shot.
A really great looking show. I prefer this to how Jessica Jones looked. Jessica Jones seemed to have an available light look at times. Still looked good but Luke Cage is another level.
Been watchin on 4K with a projector, really sharp.
Looks like they snuck in some nice and subtle post grain too. Love this era of super cinematic episodic TV.

I Agree! Interesting note, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones were shot by the same cinematographer!

Also, one character mentions a friend having a RED Camera!

It does look great, but the writing, acting and inauthenticity of some of the situations in the show are making it hard for me to watch it, I struggled through the first 2 episodes. A strong example of how writing acting and execution of story are most important.

Yeah, sadly the weakest of the high concept Marvel series, no where close to Daredevil or Jessica Jones. There's many false notes in the acting and the writing feels like someone very green penned it. Most of the time I think better editing would have heightened the intensity, but there's little life to the characters anyway. If it's intentionally this way I'm not sure why.

I was wondering if anyone else from the board caught that. Not only does he mention Red, but he says "4K for $4k"! I was in a room with 3 other people (civilians) and started laughing hard at that; everyone else thought I was nuts.

I think this show takes the biggest risk I terms of story. It's a straight-up blacksploitation show, but I'm a black American in his mid-thirties and was wondering as I was watching "how many people who are younger or from a different race or culture are going to get this?"

Not saying you don't, but the intentionally cheesy music cues, zooms, sometimes jarring edits, on-the-nose exposition etc etc are them conforming to a genre that has a lot of camp in it and, I'd bet, most aren't in on the joke and will just think it's really corny. They also didn't take it far enough that it will be obvious enough to a lot of people. It's hard to do those things if you're not a comedy like Udercover Brother or Black Dynamite (one of my favorite movies) and have people actually take the story seriously.

Having said that, even taking that into consideration, I thought the second half fell apart and it seemed like they ran out of story about then. In my opinion, this would have been twice as good if it was half as long.

Overall I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10, which I hate doing considering I was really pulling for this one in particular to be great. Still think Daredevil is the best...

All of them are really well shot though.

Tried watching Luke Cage, but found myself fast-farwarding through scenes the same way I do for kid bruce wayne scenes in Gotham.
Eventually gave-up on the show halfway through the 2nd episode.

Shot on alexa :P

I'm really enjoying the show. They shot mostly in Red if I'm not mistaken. I ask myself if sometimes those flares are not using the LLO OLPF to create- i think it was bold and worked well stylistically.

The first 3 to 4 episodes I really enjoyed. I found the casting spot on. however when they did that Daredevil crossover and introduced a main character from that show, and overused Luke's "Superpowers" instead of continuing the excelent "trying to win Harlem" from Cornel and his Cousin Mariah, the show went a bit downhill. Still interested to see how it ends, I am in episode 8. Great aoundtrack by the way.

So far I really dig this show. Love the pace which is so different than most shows on television. There has been some backlash with white people complaining the show is too black. WTF?
aren't we a bit...racist? ;-)

I imagine a lot of people are trying hard not to respond to this one Bob..

Agreed, it looks great. But to echo what others have said, it feels off to me. The edits seem random, the pacing is far too slow at parts, and the acting seems to be phoned in half the time. 6/10. Daredevil still stands as the best Marvel show on Netflix.

Some interviews w/ the cinematographer, Manuel Billeter:

On Luke Cage:

On Jessica Jones:

He said he shot Jessica Jones at 4K due to the budget, and some 5K for VFX.
Does anybody know what resolution he shot Luke Cage?

Matt Lloyd shot Daredevil season 1 at 4K:

I didn't find any info on season 2 resolution.
