I splurged on the LTO-3A a few months back and was using my MacBook Pro and an FTP client to connect and transfer files.

I recently finished my studio setup and now have everything running through a new Mac Pro 8 core. Everything is working great except for the LTO. I am no longer able to connect to the LTO drive. I only used the Java app a few times but I was never able to actually transfer any files. I switched to using a stand alone ftp client and this worked well until the computer switch. I don't remember ever changing any of the defaults on the drive, but according to Quantum tech support I must have or I wouldn't be having these issues.

I spent three hours on the phone with them today and the issue is still unresolved. They were supposed to speak to a higher level tech and call me back.

I think everything would be fine if I could just reset to the defaults. I've read the manual and tried their method (and a few variations since the instructions aren't real clear) but am still having issues. I don't know if the thing every reset to the defaults or not, as there doesn't seem to be any indication even if you get the process right.

Does anyone have first hand experience with the convoluted tape-in-power-down-tape-eject-rinse-and-repeat process to restore the Quantum LTO-3A network defaults?

A new update was just released yesterday. There is a new system reset procedure in place. I would give it a shot. The update is available at the Quantum web site.

The "eject-me-three-times" reset procedure may not work on LTO-3A drives running 2.6.0 firmware and earlier. The new release Jeremy mentions fixes this, but that doesn't help if you can't see the drive.

Really sorry tech support hasn't been spiffier - please send me a private message with contact info if they haven't gotten back to you.

you could just try a network port scan using something like apple remote desktop.

Based on what I've read so far, I'm going to suspect this is a networking issue. Beyond that, it could be a faulty unit.

I guess you should PM A-Series, he is the Quantum guy here. And good luck.

Thanks for all the ideas. My drive went down before I could install any of the firmware updates and considering I can't communicate with the drive, I have no way to run the update.

I got a phone call from David at Quantum tech support yesterday. After reviewing my case file and asking me a few questions he decided I had a faulty drive and has over-nighted a new replacement unit. It should arrive tomorrow. He also volunteered to walk me through the setup and installation so I can be up and running ASAP.

I was beyound frustrated but it appears Quantum has stepped up to the plate.

If I have any future issues I'll be sure to PM you, A-Series.
