  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

lowlight tests ISO 1250

Also pretty much all cameras that could be categorized as 'point and shoots' have 1/2" or smaller sensors and "native" ISO settings of <ISO200. The best of the best point and shoots has <9stops of dynamic range at ~ISO1250 according to DXOmark tests.

Ryan, would you have those 2000 iso grabs in 4k without too much jpeg compression. I'm curious to see full res.

In .png would be better so no compression artifacts. But I agree what Arnold said : it's really noisy even on these small screenshots.

Certainly seems like R3Ds would be most useful and manageable for most, no? Much smaller than tiffs and pngs and we can actually play with it ourselves to see what really is and isnt there as far as noise on the low end.

I have withdrawn the question, admitted I've not conformed to the politics of the forum, apologized, said the images were incredible, thanked the manufacturer by his first name and never actually named the Bloomers. Today I'll mount the red station that arrived on an altar, give blood and help an old lady across the street. :) After that I suggest you put it behind you. :). All in good fun, right?

Clearly not. The question you asked was "Should these images not be truly amazing?" which sounds like a rhetorical question especially given the statements it follows. If it was not rhetorical, I apologize for misinterpreting it that way. Why would you ever approach images from this camera test expecting images to be 'truly amazing'? What would 'truly amazing' images be to you? If you have specific questions rather than ones primarily pertaining your own seemingly impossible and very vague expectations people on these forums will be better equipped to help you with those questions.

As for your comment about Philip Bloom, I really do not see any parallels between your situation and his. What is not acceptable is trolling, which some may have taken your comments as since their negative, vague and hyperbolic content may to some indicate that is your intention. I prefer to assume that is not your intention, but you will probably get more cooperation from others on this forum if you are ask real questions and do not accuse people of 'blooming' you.

Not really, it may seem fun to you to make fun of this forum and pretend people posting here have censored you and forced you into joining a cult, but I would not be that surprised if other people on this forum felt it was not that funny and probably a bit frustrating to have someone such as yourself contribute nothing to the conversation and lead people like me to take this thread off track in response to you.

Now lets get back on topic :P

Any chance those R3Ds will become publicly available?

Youre absolutely right. I owe you an apology for somehow forcing you to type on your computer. All the stuff about making fun and cults (wow, where'd that come from!?) are inventions from your last post, not mine, as we all see from the record. I wouldnt be surprised if other people on this forum feel your accusations and thread-hijacking really detract from this experience. You took what we all see was a light-hearted post and used it to fuel your own anger issues. I suggest you get over it and back on topic! :).

Its a t2.9 lens...not really a low available light lens

take a 5D with with an f2.8 lens and shoot at night at 1250iso, you will get PLENTY of noise in the image. All the low light footage people drool over is mainly shot on speedy glass f1.2/1.4

I've been grading a lot of low light, ISO 800 - 1250 footage we've shot in the last two weeks since the Scarlet arrived. Let me tell you one thing: stills are meaningless. You can't tell if you like the noise or not unless it's moving... sometimes it works great, sometimes it needs work...

... not that these aren't gorgeous stills, the photography is great.

On a 5D at the same f-stop and ISO all those highlights would likely be long gone unless they were thrown a lot more out of focus, which then again they might be on a FF35 sensor.
