  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lower Cost Rocket

Pretty much any upper range modern computer has the processing power to run R3Ds at 1/4 res provided your storage is fast enough, so I don't really see why they'd need to offer a budget Rocket with reduced functionality. A price reduction on the current model or a bump in specs would be nice, though.

I think we might see something coming out with the Dragon upgrade as data rates might increase as well.

For now I dont really see the point in changing the red rocket just becasue it is a couple of years old. If it debayers 5k at full res what else is there to upgrade? Better integration with other programs perhpaps !? Maybe. But the rocket delivers what its meant to deliver. I think red will upgrade once it no longer holds with what is given to it. And with the new processors and graphics card the rocket will serve for quite some time. My opninion at least. Though a small decrease in cost would be nice of course heh. But to produce such a sophisticated card in such small numbers I understand it should be quite costly to produce.

+1, Rocket 2 and more affordable please.

I think RED needs either lower the cost of the rocket or release a more affordable version for Scarlet users.

Something that would allow playback/editing for a program like Premiere but maybe not quite up to spec for rendering out to ProRes/DNx etc.

Just my 2 cents!

I've always thought it was about 4K more than it's worth.

(On the other hand your cameras are undervalued!)

Though I do understand the RED business plan of cheap to buy in, expensive to kit out.

Cheers,
