  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Low-light OLPF. . . what are your experiences?

What I'm seeing !!

1: Weapon is more clean, now I push 1 stop in more than the Epic Dragon. So with a standard you can get to 4000 ISO and it will produce good results!
2: Scarlet-w behaves like mine Epic Dragon, this tiny little creature is amazing for the price. BUT I can not push like Weapon. Well I think it is normal for the price difference!

How is this possible? The Scarlet-W shares the same sensor and boards as Weapon. Theoretically the noise should be identicle at ISO's

Standard OLPF - All the benefits of LLO without the problems. Nice clean images to 2000ISO on EPIC dragon (with a bit of light eh, not just in pitch blackness) .

Highlight OLPF - Nice energy, nice texture, can open up much more before clipping, really solid color fidelity, nice even skin tones, have pushed to 1600 in some situations but don't want to live there. nice in the 640-1280 range, but can afford to get down as low as 250 with nice results. Just more on the top end of the image.

Are people saying that the Dragon sensor, with the Highlight OLPF, looks a bit green
when in a Weapon camera body, but not when in a Epic body?

Ciao Luigi!
Are you comparing 6K vs 5K, or 5K on both?

Quick question - what sort of issues might someone have if you have the low light filter installed, but need to shoot some scenes with brighter light... does it affect the quality of the image negatively if you use it in "normal, brighter" shoot conditions.

I love the color in the Skin Tone OLPF. But you'll be fine with the Low Light in bright light. I shot this with the LLO on Epic Dragon in the bright desert. I used the LLO as I thought I'd be shooting past sunset and I knew there was no way I was going to have the time to swap filters but it turned out we didn't shoot that late. After grading the LLO works in daylight.

Nice Shot Greg ;)

ciao ALvise ;)
What I'm seeing now! Standard olpf . Scarlet-w and Weapon CF
I made the black shading.
These two shots I quickly made the same opening them.
I make more precise test, next week to better understand how much difference.
Externally and internally.
What I mean is that Weapon has a better electronics, everything and better.
Hey guys we have difference of $ 40,000. !!

Under, ISO 12800 to show a little difference.

Interesting. Wonder if there's a diff btw Magnesium and Carbon?

That said for 12800...this is still great.

The right picture also looks more crushed than the photo on the left. Perhaps if the left side had the same "black level", then they would match closer?

Thanks Adam good,
in fact, the default values do not match!
If I make the level of blacks, if I do a crash of blacks, the two images are similar .
But if I lift the blacks, you see Weapon remain cleaner.
But after your observation I make some more thorough testing and many more shots.

Lugigi, how is Scarlet-W comparing to Epic Dragon...in terms of day to day performance?

Also - in these comparisons, were you shooting both 5K? Or Weapon 6K, and Scarlet-W in 5K?

thanks!

I downloaded your clips. They look extremely clean for night shots. I rated them at 3200 ISO and they still look clean.
What else can you tell us about how and what you shot with? OLPF?
Thanks for sharing

Agreed. Just saw these. They are clean/usable at 3200. Esepecially inside the car.

Luigi what stop was your lens at? 1.4?

Appears to be a noticeable improvement over Epic Dragon, even at 6K.

Standard OLPF.
Shot with Xeen T 1.8.
Light, the boys have used 1 colored LED bar 15cm, of Ikea, it costs $ 12.

Nick , how to see this Scarlet-w is a beautiful camera.
It is to be honest I feel better than with Epic Dragon, even if done only 5k. hehe
Keep in mind that can do many more things an Epic Dragon!

It's weird. The weapon looks cleaner, but it also looks softer here and I see more details in the shadows in the scarlet pic. Definitely worth it to investigate more.

It tints green, especially in the shadows, on the Epic Dragon, but it is easy to correct out.
