Low cost mixer with limiter?

Hello
I am looking for a mixer / mic pre-amp that has signal limiting. I have seen this SQN type products but nothing that I can afford. I am a one man band that is looking to take the edge off peaking . Any thoughts on what might be out there are most welcome.

my favorites..

in the under $1500 range..
Sound devices Mix pre d and 302... or a used 442..
extremely good limiters in a battery powered extremely portable and versatile package..
better than wendt and PSC.. the promix is not remotely as good as the SD...
I have tried all of these..
Even better are sonosax and zaxcom neverclip.. but are more expensive..

For high quality preamps and good limiting for under $1K I would invest in the sound devices. Mix Pre if you are primarily doing only a couple of mic inputs. If you need 3, you'll have to bump up to the 302 which if your budget is under $1k means looking for one used. There is one on ebay right now sitting at $900 with 10 hours left.

I know its not exactly a mixer. Has anyone used the tascam hd p2 in here? My aim is to have a decent quality recording with time code. Something that i can give to a studio and cleanup for final mix afterwards. Will I have problems syncing the scarlet directly to it or would I be better off using a denecke or some other tc generator?

I have used it. It sounds decent, but does not generate true timecode..
