Thanks Peter! Really appreciate it!
I go with the 32" Sony TV and Mini Monitor from BMD. Hardly can wait to see my work on the "big screen"![]()
You will be glad you did. Once you start working with a "video" monitor - there is no turning back...

Hey! Thanks! I'm familiar with the DVE name from the early days of DVD and home theater, but never used it.... Is it a fool proof solution? Can I mess it up really bad?
+ in this case I can calibrate my TV with a blu ray player. But previously someone mentioned that I should do the calibration with the TV connected through the BMD Ultrastudio Mini Monitor to my MBP 13".... So what's up now?
(I could get either the DVE HD Basics or the Disney WOW disc for 16 GBP per piece... )
Monitor expert Steve Shaw of Light Illusion has certified several of them as being OK for color-grading with his display LUTs:Any thoughts on the Eizos? cG223w? Cg276?

In general, I don't think they're as good as the broadcast monitors made by other firms, mainly for viewing angle and colorimetry. This is pretty much a case of "you get what you pay for."
The LiftGammaGain forum has numerous discussions on monitors for color correction.
I think it's a controversial area. I can say that many top-flight LA post houses bought the Panasonic 300-series plasmas, but Steve Shaw would (correctly) say that calibrating plasmas is problematic because of the Automatic Brightness Limiter issue. Nonetheless, Level 3, Technicolor, Company 3, Deluxe, and I believe KeepMePosted are all using them anyway. I think it's a good guy in its price range (about $3500), but it works best with an external LUT box.Thx Marc...what do you & other pro colorists think the best *value* is for a grading monitor right now?
