Hello

If i want to videotape what i shoot on red to check the best takes quicky, where can i connect some videorecorder? does it have to be a HD deck?
Nothing else out there cheaper and smaller?

Or can I check my takes playing from camera to LCD?

Sorry the silly questions, i havent recieved my red yet :)

George

Unless you get a downconverter, you have to have something that supports HD-SDI or HDMI (I guess you could get a HDMI to VGA converter and then record VGA onto something.)

I think the finally enabled being able to do playback on camera. If you are a very small crew with plenty of time, then it shouldn't be a problem.

You can playback no problem from the camera. You can scrub through clips at vari speeds and check clips as you go no problem. Also you can buy a firewire 800 cf card reader and play back a quicktime proxy real time once you shoot. It doesnt take much time and doesnt require much equipment to do playback with the red camera.

The playback also is sent out via the HD SDI and Preview connectors, so you can feed it to external monitors.

The AJA HD10MD3 can be powered 12v, which means you can make a cable to power it from the D-Tap on your battery mount. This is what we do every day of the week with our AJA boxes.

is there such a thing as a Dtap power splitter? (as i plan on pulling power to a Genio remote focus for some of the time)

ps - thanks for the response - Also any idea if can output a pal signal from the red?

AntonBauer Powertap Multi should do the trick jtm !

Hey James,

I was running a D Tap Splitter (4 Way) multitap to the AJA downconverter and wireless sender all powered through Red batts and sending Red 720P downconverted output wirelessly to PAL monitors from a camera on Friday.

No problems at all. Bit finicky though, all those wires and cables. Also the AJA power connector is a strange little beast, we converted it to a 4 pin xlr and then to D Tap.

....and I think I saw somewhere in the menus a 50/60 Hz switch...but was that for viewfinder/EVF or the outputs? Was in the build 15 manual or menus, so beta not production reliable build.

Anybody recall?

will this work for a low cost video out?

will this work for a low cost video out?

Can somebody tell me if these would work.....(for video signal only)

HDMI out of RED with HDMI to DVI converter cable eg:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...ensive_X3V_HDMI_DVI15_X3V_Series_HDMI_to.html

then DVI to Component eg:
http://sewelldirect.com/DVI-to-Component-Adapter-Cable-15ft.asp

then out to video village

or

HDMI into something like this:
http://www.curtpalme.com/boxHD.shtm
or this
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...PBPR_HDMI_1T_YPbPr_HDMI_Format_Converter.html

then out to your video village.

I'm asking because I'm looking at a low cost hook up to some older SD Sony studio and field monitors (so component is ok).
Basically I'm wondering if this will work and negate the need for a downconverter or am I missing something basic?

Thanks for any advice.

Cam

Component is a pain in the for that - three cables to run.

The DVI - Component cable probably won't work - it's RGB, not YCrCb, also requires special support on the video card...

And all of that will still not help, because the signal will remain 720p.

You'd probably be better off with a relatively inexpensive computer monitor (the Dell ones are popular) with HDMI to DVI adapter.

so basically without a downconverter I'm f####d!

ok - back to putting AJA or Miranda back on the budget.

Thanks Dylan - knew a really low cost solution was probably too good to be true.
May as well just get an ioHD if I need to spend at least a couple of grand just for a downconverter that does nothing else.
I use one at work (an ioHD) and I gotta say I like it a lot - except for a couple of things namely it totally robbing the FW bus on your MacPro or MacBookPro.

Cheers
