As the community felt my post was spam, I have since deleted it. My apologies.

Also as far as I know ProCrewBook has done some spamming on other sites such as mandy.com similar to this as well...

It went like: We're looking to pay a huge percentage of our budget to a DP, but you have to register at PCB to see the ad, etc.

Beware.

That's interesting XiaoSu... Especially since there are NO ADS to see on ProCrewBook. So, why would you spread a nasty rumour like that? It's simply false. All it is, is a directory. Nothing to "register".."to see".

I just had a brief look, and there are indeed ads for Sony, Fujifilm, Filmmaker magazine and Matthews.

You say that you have nothing to gain from people registering at said site. But since there is an (undisclosed) fee for getting registered on your site, I would argue that as an employee you would indeed benefit from any registration. Do you also work for http://onestopred.com/, which you have previously advertised?

When I clicked randomly on some sections, they were mostly empty. Those that had people listed, had very little information.

Googling for procrewbook.com gives a mere 34 hits. For comparison, mandy.com gets 5.8 million.

On the website it says copyright 2004-2009, yet it appears that the domain name was first registered in july 2008 by an individual from LA (apparently it was paid for for only a year and renewed in july 2009). The same person has also registered a very similar service, the above mentioned onestopred.com. Going to the Internet Archive, corrugates the impression that the website first went live in july 2008.

So that begs the question to please disclose who made those "lots of requests for RED DP's".

Plus what Zakaree said. Please get in touch with jason at landmine dot tv to sort out your real name and your sponsorship status.

I just googled ProCrewBook and got 3790 returns. This isn't a debate about whether or not the firm I work for gets a lot of hits. It was simply to let you know about a discount available. The site gets between 400,000 and 700,000 hits per month. Yes, PCB owns OneStopRed as well. The "requests for DP's come from producers asking us for RED referrals, that's all. Sorry if this is considered spamming. I will also change to a real name now that I see this policy. When I signed up with RedUser this was not the case. Cheers.

PS: I highly recommend Mandy.

On the first page google does indeed say a couple of thousand hits, but when you dig beyond page 3, you get a message that the remaining results are very similar, and google only displays the said 34 hits.

If you remove that limitation, then curiously quite a few hits are entitled "ProCrewBook.com - Giant Scam?"

For the sake of the argument I also went to yahoo.com, there your website gets 1070 results (83 million for mandy.com). Same numbers at altavista.com. Ask.com gives you 15 hits (vs. 3.8 million for mandy.com). Checking site stats on Wolframalpha.com yields 130 hits per day (roughly 3.900 per month).

Business like this has been going on for years - both online and offline in traditional print media. Someone will call you and trick you into buying your name onto some kind of index of businesses and once you're in they will leech you for a lot of money. I'd tell people to stay the hell away. Do your own marketing by contacting companies you'd like to work with or for and if you do your job well then they'll keep calling you. Best investment you'll ever make. Remember - there is no such thing as a free meal (anyway - you get the idea).
