WHAT HAPPENED:

Over labor day weekend 2016 and the following couple of days, ERIC BEASLEY went around LA posing as a cinematographer and rented camera equipment from at least 3 different people. He did not return the equipment and has since shut off his phone, shut down his social media sites and other forms of communication. He ran the same scan back in May, steeling an Alexa Mini Package with Zeiss Ultra Primes lenses from DAVID WANG of Burbank. We believe he is in Hollywood, CA or may be back in BOSTON. HE IS ON THE LOOSE. ​

did you try going to the address on his license with the police?
 
He no longer lives there. He is on the run and has cut off all communication.
 
I've seen at least 2-3 reported stolen cameras from this guy. Everyone be on high alert, using ShareGrid and other ways to rent from private owners/renters.

His license is just about expired, but if he's anywhere in Boston, he'd likely be in close proximity to his brother. The brother works as a Barista and moves around, but it looks like he might be working at the Starbucks on Longwood Ave, which fits with the various addresses I found. It looks like they also hang out/shop at Cambridgeside Galleria or the brother might be working there in addition to the other location. She seems to be working at the Everett Chuck E. Cheese, as a manager. From what I see on his girlfriend's Twitter, it looks like they are about to break up or have broken up because the brother Evan is a pothead scrub, so she might be helpful in locating the thief, if you can get her assistance.

Unfortunately they're probably long gone by now. If he doesn't shoot, then he sold them as soon as he stole them to people who had no idea they were "hot".
 
What a POS. Try not to involve the police if you find him. This is why it is critical to make sure your insurance policy includes conversion, which is what happened when these scumbags use their real ID, if he used a fake ID or just simply broke into your house or car and stole it it's of course theft, which is obviously included in most policies however most insurance companies will attempt to deny a claim on a bad rental if you don't have coverage for conversion.

I realize that I am posting this retrospect, but WTF is a 23 year old with no discernable credits or reel doing renting an Alexa Mini with Ultra Primes?

I now realize that having id and a credit card is not enough. What has the person worked on? Who have they collaborated with? How knowledgeable are they about cinematography?
 
Based on what I've seen on his brother's girlfriend's social media, it looks like he may have quickly off-loaded the gear and then went back to Boston to party with the fruits of his labors. Did anyone investigate that shady looking RED auction on ebay that was by "alexdrummondred"? A bunch of RED Epic/Dragon cameras + gear and the only Alex Drummond in the LA area that I know of wouldn't have access to any of that.
