ON a job monday we noticed that there was movement on the mount. Not the mount to the body, this is the internal part of the mount. The movement is in the threads for the back focus. Anyone else had this problem?

If you mean the rotating collimating collar has play then just tighten up the two locking nuts - but note that if it was loose your "back focus" also known as flange focal distance/depth may be incorrect which means zooms may not hold focus when changing focal lengths, and focus markings on lenses will be off. You'll need to check it with a focus chart and wide angle lens, or one of the collimating calibration tools like the Null Lens, Optimator etc. So do a search on this forum for that if you're not familiar with that.

If you mean the rotating collar is tight, but that whole part moves with respect to the body, then I'd be surprised as it's held on by 8 bolts and two locating pins!

Eric.

The inner of he mount, is loose. It's not the 2 locking bolts that are loose, i know this sounds strange, but it's as if there is play on the worm/threads of the collimation ring. when i loosen the locking nuts to set the backfocus it is impossible to do so using my RED NULL as there is constant movement back and forth in the mount.

Let me note that I am not suggesting that you do what I'm about to suggest unless you are comfortable with it. This is not something that will void your warranty, but you will be working relatively near your sensor and you don't want to damage anything. If you are not comfortable then conact RED or bring the camera to a decent camera rental house such as Abel.

The PL mount is removable using a small Torx-plus driver included with our cmera from RED. This is not a huge deal as it is how you swap between PL and Nikon mount. But if you keep going behind there you will find more screws for the next section, which is the one that is loose for you. I believe it is eight screws holding that section in place, and I have found these to be loose sometimes.

Hi Thanks Mitch,

It is not those eight screws behind i have already tightened those. I am taking cam over to RED pinewood next week, it's a mystery to me what the problem is. as i said, it seems to be the thread in the collimation collar.?
