I was disappointed yesterday to find that the Lock/Unlock button on my AL Canon EF mount is on the verge of breaking right off. The button is wiggling like a very loose tooth; it just hangs out from its enclosure. The button seems to be made of plastic, and I'm sure it'll break off in the next few days, hopefully not while I'm on set. The mount has seen very light use in the year that I've had it.

This seems to me like shoddy manufacturing, and I'm concerned because I know I'll have to pay a high price for it. I just had a bad experience sending in a RED Station with a power port that came loose. The Station was still under warranty but RED told me that, somehow, a power port coming loose was my fault and the repair bill is coming near $400.

This equipment is a huge investment for us REDusers and time and time again I'm disappointed in RED's lack of support for it. I'm wary to even send in my Canon mount because I know I'll be hit with RED's outrageous evaluation fee regardless of what the technicians discover.

Has anyone else come across this loose lock button issue?

Don't stress! I had the same problem with mine and it is a really easy fix!

just ease off the plastic plate directly behind the button and there is a screw to tighten (or a bolt to screw up, I can't exactly remember - but it is really simple and self explanatory once that plate is off). Maybe pop some loctite on to make sure it doesn't happen again, it'll take you 5 minutes. I know what you mean about thinking it is broken or about to snap, but really it is nothing to worry about.

Someone give this man a medal.

Thanks so much Ben! That's been worrying me all day, you're a lifesaver. I hope anyone else who has this problem will see your answer, it was really simple to do and the button works again.

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer, thanks again!

I’m having the same issue with the dsmc2 EF mount. Is there anyone who can help?

I have re tightened the screws on mine a few times, as discibed, the plastic cup comes off with screws below. Takes 2 minutes but don't do it in the field, the parts are very small
