So - Does anyone know what the actual Color Looping Bug Fixer fixes for the looping bug?

Long story short, I am working with Color, but the project took a strange path to get here:

1) Edit in Avid MC
2) editor saves bin and sends to AVB to me (sans Avid Clips and whatever came out of metafuze)
3) I Automatic Duck to FCP, relinking the A003_XXX.mov (from the metafuze encode) to my A003_xxx_M.mov proxies to see stuff move in FCP
4) Send to Color
5) Close Color and Color Looping fix my project
6) Scream at Color for having clips that are stuck at one frame

I am sure that this funny workflow is what is messing the looping bug fix, so my question is can I peek into the XML to fix something manually. Is it something obvious?

Disclaimer: I am a Final Cut Studio kinda dude, am Avid illiterate, and the "right" way would have involved a FCP round trip with a sane workflow, but what fun is that>

(As The deadline will be dead soon, I am rendering out prores from RedAlert to relink to within Color, but I fear time is short)

Off the top of my head, I would say your workflow is fine. Once you Auto-Duck it into FCP and get the proxies reconnected, there shouldn't be any problems.

There seems to be a rare issue with color and the proxies that gets them stuck at a single frame that's not the original looping bug. I had it happen to me a few times, and the advice I was given was to rebuild the proxies using the *old* color science via clipfinder. Seemed to work out.

Just to check, did you remove filters and speed effects?

@ Luca - I did not- I probably should have tried that. It is almost done with the main render.. I'll give that a go in a sec. I'll try the older version for the proxies first tho..

There are a number of issues that can make Color freak out, not just Red related.

It depends on which version of Color you are using.

Color 1.0.4
needs Color Fixer for XMLs from Clipfinder.
render stills to 10bit uncompressed
remove all speed changes and reversals
flatten all nests
remove any plug-in that shakes or moves video (earthquake)
remove any 3-way Color Correctors
all motion tab frame or sizing with keyframes

Color 1.5.1
needs Color Fixer for XMLs from Clipfinder.
render stills to 10bit uncompressed
remove any 3-way Color Correctors
all motion tab frame or sizing with keyframes

With Redcode (unlike other codecs), Color bakes in frame and sizing changes and removes the motion tab upon round-tripping for static shots. For keyframed shots, Color bakes in an incorrectly resized static change and keeps the motion tab keyframes upon round-tripping thus messing up the shot.
