Hey guys,

first of all i have to say that i am not at all an expert when it comes to the RED Epic (or cameras in general^^) and yet i always get asked in our company if i can "look" for a solution to problem <xyz> related to DSMCs.
(Guess thats the fate of the IT staff, they assume you know everything, which i don`t of course.^^)
That being said i'll try to be as precisely as possible in describing our problem but please bear with me if things get a little bit vague.

Our camera assistant told me that there is some sort of inconvenience when handling Loops with the RED Epic.
Lets say you do 8s Loops and all of a sudden you wanna make a few adjustments. (e.g FrameRate)
Our camera guys told me, that there is currently no way to stop the loop quickly, make your adjustments and continue.
Is there nothing like a quick "stop function" to abort the loop and change settings immediately so you can return to do a loop asap?
Maybe there is something obvious which we overlook so forgive me please if the question sounds stupid. (surely does to me^^)

Regards

Dennis

If it is toggling pre record on and off that can be assigned to any key on the camera.

or,

describe be what you mean by loop.

Sorry about the wrong terminology.
My colleagues called it "loop" but of course you are right, in the camera configuration its actually called Pre-record.

As far as my colleagues told me, if you enable pre-record there is no way to stop it without triggering, hence write a file to the redmag you don`t wanna have at all.
I guess they are just looking for a way to "quickly" abort the pre-record which doesn`t result in a "not wanted file" being written to the redmag.
Deos that make any sense?

Thank you for your time and help.

So really you are asking for a delete clips feature. Like if you engaged prerecord and hit the record button and then did not want th resulting clip.
There is no way to delete clips from a redmag in camera.

So, if your prerecord is set to 10 seconds then you will end up with ten second clips when you press record.

Once you are in pre-record, the only way out is to hit the record button.

One thing you can do, is to NOT check the "always enable prerecord" button. This way when you hit the record button the camera goes back to normal after recording the prerecord clip.

I may well be mistaken, but is it not possible to map a key to "Record: Stop" to exit pre-record without writing a file?

Yes.

This would work. At first I was going to suggest a two key setup.

Key 1 Trigger prerecord now.
Key 2 Record stop.

But the problems seems to be with recorded clips rather than getting in and out of pre record.

But it is very easy to map Trigger pre record to one key and Record stop to another.

I will forward the information to our camera guys and we`ll see if the key mapping method will do the trick for us :)
I appreciate your help, thank you very much.

Dennis
