I don't know if this is the right forum to put this in.

In future I'm looking at putting together a small compact rig for documentary, and I'm interested in seeing what small and compact zoom lens are out there with a pleasing image and blur patterns with true 4k resolution and at least bottom end cinema performance, low cost. The small m4/3rds camera and Sony fixed 35mm have been doing this, but am unfamiliar with their lens issues. Zoom range of at least 0.9x or less to 3x or more is preferable. 0.6x or less, or 5x or more, is handy. Frankly, in events shooting 10-20x can be helpfull, a long time ago I had to shoot at a wedding from a balcony once.

I am likely to use auto/set a lot, and some electronic manual control, but am hand on manual is also fine. So I am looking into lens of any of the three types. Consumer, professional, still, eng, cinema. The final camera and format is still open.

If this is on the wrong forum and it is not getting much productive response, please move it around. Thanks.

Thanks

Wayne.

By compact I mean short optics (even new high technology liquid or flat etc). Size and weight are an issue on this type of camera, but do mean to use it in small basic theater productions.

I would suggest that in addition to compact size, low weight and 3x - you are going to want a decent stop for docco work, which is often in available light and has on camera subjects who may not be as relaxed if they have bright lights in their grille.

I know it's not that popular, which means you might be able to get a used one fairly cheap, is the RED branded 18-50 or 17-50Pro short zooms at around T3.

Thanks Blair. Yeah, Im looking fir better stops and low light, but Raven/Mini seems to be the best options, but that wont stop more.

I thought Red stopped making lens years ago. A bit heavy and big, but worth looking into. I could not even see the zooms on the red sight, luck I noticed that you could scroll. Cant see prices yet either. Maybe I should say budget lens of price cheaper or similar to Red (they did start at a few thousand didn't they)? The guys with 4/3rds are using some well made primes for s16 for less than $800 new.
