I'd be willing to negotiate buying your body so that you'd basically be doing the stage three, but getting your camera sooner with the body going to me instead of RED. Please feel free to contact me to explore possibilities - but also keep in mind that I'm not looking to pay a premium because for 17500 I can order a new body from red today that still has it's trade in value. I'm looking for your executed red one body that is no longer good for a trade in.

Thanks!

Hi nathan...not trying to ruin your post, but unfortunately, the TRADE-IN offer for NEW R1's expired Oct 30, 2009. You can only upgrade it to M-X

Clearly announced in the thread.

The advantage to buying an executed RED One over brand new one is that you would obviously get the M-X sensor faster. There would of course be a savings here, but the camera itself isn't going to plummet in value too much. There are things a RED One will do that a Scarlet S35 will not, for example.

We also don't know how long the trade-in policy will hold out. All things subject to change, you know. There may very well come a day when all new RED One purchases or transfers are simply not eligible at all. But I think making deals for an executed RED One now is a bit premature. We don't know how it will all play out. And any official transfer will have to take place after the camera owner takes delivery of his Epic.

Put me in the category of thinking that Nathan was right in that you can buy a R-1 now and then trade it in for an Epic at full price, later on.

This is not exactly a complete picture. You can trade it in for an EPIC brain only, but not an EPIC-X, which comes with all the modules (an $8,000 value, I believe) you need to start shooting.

You are exactly right. Epic X is for us elitists:closedeyes::sifone:

Hey Tim and Jeff -
I am the original owner of a redpackage now and it was my understanding that if ownership is not transferred you can still trade it in. But if ownership was transferred after october 30th then you can only upgrade. IE - if you sold but didn't transfer ownership its kosher. Is that not the case? Thanks for your help!

i see what youre saying now - new purchases get trade in but not the bonus goodies -

As far as I understand this is the layout - please correct me if its wrong!

Buying used "executed" RED One
- MX upgradeable
- no trade in value
- no path to epic

Buying new RED One
- 17500 trade in value - towards Epic Brain
- mx upgradeable
- Path to epic
- no additional bonuses with epic
- end of the line

I wasn't able to make the bonus goodies add up to nearly 8K, but maybe I'm just bad at math -- whatever the figure, they are still very generous.

I heard it was about $6k, roughly $34,000 in value.

Add the extra $9,000 gift of stage 2 and you have about $15,000 in savings, just for buying a Red early on.

How much do I love this company!
