A little, er, accident with our vintage Nebtek 5" this week finds me in the market for a new LCD monitor in the 4-6" range. Want it future-proofed for Scarlet so I know HDMI is a must. Trolling thru the forum didn't find anything after 2009 on these and, what with NAB just over, thought maybe someone could point to the Latest-and-Greatest. So far I have heard good things about:
-Manhattan LCDs
-smallhd's DP6- SLR seems esp attractive.

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated!

I would seriously look at what TV Logic has to offer.
Had the chance to use one on a job recently and was very impressed by it (and I have the small HD).

Don't get me wrong - Small HD is great. I would also seriously take a look at both their 5.6" (DP6) and their new 4" (DP4) that was just shown off at their NAB event.

The TV Logic offers built in waveform, focus in red and a few other bells and whistles that the Small HD doesn't - if that makes a difference for you.

I personnally have the marshall 5" and find it great !

SmallHD -- In case you have not gotten the message. One big reason is that the DP6 is 1280x800... Marshall is only 800x480 and that is a huge difference. I have a Marshall 8.4" which was great until I got the DP6. Even though it is smaller the difference in rez makes the DP6 easier to use for focus, it's very sharp. You will love it.

I hate to contradict, but like Steve said, that is a standard definition monitor and it looks like one. If you are used to judging focus on the RED 5.6" LCD, you will hate the Marshall.

:nads:Yeah ok ! You guys are right ! I didn't thought about it ! I'm using the marshall with hdslr's for a better/easier focusing. My response was a bit fast and wrong.

THANK YOU!
this is great info guys - looks like the smallHD is best Bang. Damn - nice to have this support, being way up here in the middle of Alaska. Now back to "lurker" mode....

Wow... sounds like the smallHD is a solid choice for RED usage. Any thoughts on the new DP4 or EVF?

At NAB it looks like TVLogic 5.6" is the better, more professional solution

Would I be right with the assumption that resolution is more important than physical screen size?

I think so. None of the "new" small screen EVF's are high rez so when using them you do see the pixels. Only the RED EVF and the Bomb are high rez in a small size. Nothing can replace an EVF if you are used to using a viewfinder or need it for your style of shooting.

While waiting on my Bomb I'm using the SmallHD DP6 as my viewfinder after prematurely selling my EVF thinking I would have my Bomb by now... Works pretty good with their sun hood even in bright light. Not familiar with the TVLogic.
