Looking for Lomo lens footage.

anyone have anything online?

interested in seeing the characteristics..

aside from sloppy mechanics (which by the way,... how bad is it?)
what are your opinions on the look of the glass?

are we talking warmer like cooke.. or cooler like zeiss?
rounded image?

If they are serviced and the later models, the mechanics are fine. The standards are a sort of halfway between cooke and ziess, the speeds have that contrastier snappier thing going on like the ziess SS. The ekran 25-80 zoom is a gem.

It depends on the specific lens. from every focal length there are different optical and mechanical designs and either you have to buy from someone who knows his stuff or you're up to some trial and error.

I went the last route and have a fair set of lengths between 18 and 150, some of them good, some of them not so good. In general the wider lenses are not so good and the middle range is good. The 50 and 75 are great, hardly any lens defects except some fall off wide open but sharp at every aperture and a nice smooth image. If you want to start get one of these first.

I think it is hard to talk about color of the lenses since they differ from length to length - mines are not exactly color matched. They match in 'feel' though but that's more because of vignetting and contrast. The older ones also have what I think is a single coating while the newer ones are multi coated. I kind of prefer the older ones since they have a smoother, lower contrast look while still being sharp that you won't get with modern lenses.

I own a set ranging from 18mm to 75mm with a Zeiss 180mm jena on the long end.

The Mechanics range depending on the lens - for better or worse every lens was hand made and they vary quite a bit.

If you wanna test them out bring your Red over. I shot a short on monday with them but am not ready to post anything up online.

Let me know.

There is a major difference between the lenses made for the Konvas cameras, and the Kinor 35 series cameras. The late model Kinor style lenses all have identical barrels with the focus gear in the same spot. Optically they are the very similar, but the housings are better. For what it's worth all the lenses that I have seen as sets, always match color very well. I suspect any difference between individual lenses has to do with age, and condition. The Kinor cameras were also designed from the ground up as super 35mm cameras, and their respective lens sets were as well. Basically '89 on were pretty good.

Lomo's... I find warmer than Zeiss with a bit more magenta in the skin tones than Cooke.

Hold details in the shadows like Cooke.

Mine are fine wide open but really come to life at T4

I can not speak for non anamorphic lenses though.

Vimeo has quite a few examples of high quality Lomo footage on Red, DSLR and Film.

Most of the have been made with my lomo primes (from '88 and beyond)

The lomo 20-120 is really a nice lens when used as a 20-100 (there's vignetting past 100mm)
