  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Looking for Follow focus system brands!

Arri makes the most popular in my area.
The Arri FF-4 is the most requested by DPs and my personal favorite. For a rental house this seems to be a must have.

O'connor makes the CFF-1
I like it and think it rocks but due to the rental values the FF-4 it is the direction i lean towards.

There are several companies that make more affordable FF systems, doing a google search will be a nice way to see whats out there.

Ikan
DFocus
RedRock Micro
Genus
Zacuto
Cinevate
Cavision
Chrosziel
Willytec
denz-deniz [ This guys CRAZY his quality, the work, the engineering and the style he puts into his products is a

Having used just about every FF system out there, I can tell you there really isn't much of a difference between them all. (Exceptions being knock offs and zacuto) At the end of the day, it's a wheel that turns a gear. Though I feel my views may be a small minority...
I do agree that the FF-4 is the standard, but on the last show I was on I remember the A cam 1st requesting an FF3 and his argument convinced the other focus puller to also request an FF3 part way through. It had something to do with wrapping your fingers a certain way...?

EDIT:

FIZ 3 Hands down...There is some other solid competition out there. Unless you work a lot it would be hard to pay it off IMO, unless you operate steadicam. The problem with wireless FF is that you almost 100% need to carry a backup. If a normal FF breaks you simply pull off the barrel, yea it sucks but at least you continue shooting until a replacement arrives. If wireless fails, you are screwed!

Hi,

If you have limited cash but need professional gear : BARTECH + M-One motor or heden motor. The digital version with auto calibration is really nice . Worth the extra cash IMO.
If you have the cash : PRESTON , C-MOTION , SERVICE VISION . Preston is on top of my list. It's a workhorse. Preston as been doing Wireless FF for so many years, and ONLY that. I'm one very happy customer , and resale value will stay high, so if you screw up, you'll get most of your money back.

Cheers.
