  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Looking for faster transcode times.

Right now our workflow consists of us taking RED footage shot at 4k 16x9 into clipfinder and transcoding to apple prores(hq) with debayer settings to 2k(normal) scalling to 2048x1080 and the render time is a pretty slow process. On a macbook pro 2.2ghz intel core 2 duo with 4gb of ram it is taking about 20-25 minutes to transcode about a minute and 30 seconds of footage. Any ideas on retaining quality while increasing the time it takes to transcode without upgrading to a more powerful machine?

Oh, wow - when you type in Red Rocket, the forum automatically adds the TM symbol! That's very neat!...

haha, unfortunately just wondering if I'm that is a standard time that that transcode should take or if I'm missing a workflow that is faster

Those transcode times sound about right. Our 2008 Mac Pros render at about 6-7fps at those settings. Looks like you're getting 1-2fps on your computer.

I would suggest you look at doing an offline/online workflow. This way, you can render out to SD at quarter res and edit. Then when you're done, you can just render the footage you need at the higher resolution.

You might also try adjusting Clipfinder so that it only works on one task at a time with 2 cores/task.

When you mention the online/offline workflow are you talking of utilizing the FCP XML features with clipfinder?
