  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Looking for comments on showreel

Nice work, Ian.
There's a new thread here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?141123-What-makes-a-good-DP-reel with good advice. The takeaway for me was "tell a story" rather than "show all muh stuffs". Also, I believe length is important. As content creators we must conform to the attention span of the viewer whether it's a consumer, producer or client. I've read other professional's blogs and interviews where they say 90 seconds is about the perfect length for a reel. Also, put your best shots up front. Some people can't watch all the way through.

To summarize:

1. Tell a story
2. Keep it sweet @ 90s
3. Best shots first

This is very good advice I thing, lately I have been thinking about making it shorter. Especially when you are sitting with a client and they are looking at it with you, time seems to go very slowly. I guess we think people sit and dim the lights and pay attention, but it more seems they have it running in the background and you have to compete with all the other shiny things in the room.

I think I will revisit, and try be less sentimental with some of the shots. It will be a test to make some sort of story but will give it a shot.

Thanks Brandon.
