Looking for advice on a zoom lens I am renting

[Gary Nice]

I have a Scarlet X. Looking to rent a lightweight zoom lens.

My options in Dallas are the following

Zeiss CZ.2 28-80 T2.9
Angenieux Optima DP 30-80 T 2.8
Red Pro 17-50 T2.9
Arri/Fujimon 30-80 T 2.9

Any responses would be appreciated.

I like the optimo dp lenses a lot but I also use the hell out of my red17-50. Are you shooting handheld? is 30mm wide enough for you?

[Gary Nice]

Shooting with a Stedicam and Vest. Not sure about the 30mm being a live event with a lot of people. Want could crowd shots

Not a rental, but maybe consider the Tamron 17-50mm (non VC). Light, good optics, will cover 5k on Dragon. Got mine on Ebay for about $225 ( you could always sell afterwards for a very cheap "rental"). The lens has not been characterized by Red, so autofocus is not as reliable as characterized Canon lenses.

The RPZ 17-50mm is an excellent lens. I can wholeheartedly recommend. Used an Angenieux recently as well, and it is also great.

Angenieux is best. Can't go past the Optimo 30-80mm!
