I'm looking for a visual FX artists for a feature film. We have 20 - 30 shots depending on how things play out.

The FX range from simple to complex. e.g. Sky replacement, hydro wire removal, changing time on CU of digital clock, day for night, blood pools and splatter, city in the distance, etc. I have some of the elements and most of the shots already have temp FX to give an idea.

I assume most stuff would be built in AE. I would provide Pro Res 1080 HQ. We have 99.99% picture lock, so I could provide clips with handles via FTP. (We currently move lots of files around the team using FTP.) I would also hope to get copies of the AE projects in the end in case we had to do some quick adjustments, etc.

The film is low budget and shot on Red--but looks fantastic with huge prod value. We have dist interest and a broadcast deal looks very likely. I can give particulars to interested parties. I have a hybrid clip reel / trailer available, plus a basic website with pics and such:

I have some budget but not a lot, so I'm thinking it would likely be a cracker jack FX artist who works on the side or on his / her own gear from home office. We could also start out on a few shots and work from there.

(BTW - I may be looking for a composer as well. We have a very talented industry pro on board if he can fit it in between his regular paying gigs but just in case... [i may start a new thread for that])

Cheers,
Chris

PM sent.

We have excellent "indie rates" on our Quantel Pablo 4K... the most powerful DI system on the planet... PM me with budget details you just might be surprised.

Hey Tim, what are your INDIE rates? Quantel is great at DI and CC, but FX it needs an upgrade. For FX NUKE is pretty much taking over the planet, the features they have now in its App are Unbelievable, and its what a lot of AVATAR was comped in. The Quantel was used to Check and Calibrate AVATAR, which is cool, but the creation of the 3D was in NUKE. Stuff like OCULA, and ROLLING SHUTTER, blow me away. But its great that you have Quantel indie rates, Quantel must be lowering their prices, I remember when they were $400k!! and more! Its so crazy now, NUKE is $3500 and now SMOKE for $15k. Things are really changing.. Its all very exciting.

Oh we have NUKE workstations as well Cinema4D , 3DS, etc... \...but the Quantel can also do compositing... and is especially strong with wire removal and roto type work as its paintbox tools are second to none and super fast... we also use Genarts plug-ins and have created fast cool FX
for a number of projects... just depends on how high end and complex your VFX shots are... its sounded low budget, so I assumed budget was minimal... but if its a D.I.Y project.. than those tools yopu mentioned are indeed great... if you have LOTS OF FREE TIME and render farm access :)

I cant publish my indie rates,(PM me for those) but will say the system still retails north of $500K with Stereo3D toolsets and NEO Panel and the extra MME engines and the extra Dylan storage that we have:)

Its much more than a finisher and CC... its also an incredible deliverables machine... our Pablo artist also has 21 years of VFX experience...

cheers!

Don't want to get into a debate about Quantel versus NUKE. Its apple and oranges, but as a composting machine NUKE is better and with the right graphics card you can do Realtime playback of HD material 2k and up. You don't need a render farm for NUKE. I have a talent network of almost 100 NUKE artists in NYC area, and no one uses a render farm. NUKE is very very fast at what it does and very affordable. Quantel has never been known as a VFX machine, its seems to always have been known as a DI machine, but with the right artists that is up for debate.

Would love to check out your Quantel artists Reel. Post a Link.

Hey John, no argument from me, we use them both in perfect harmony... render farm was relevant to Maya and 3DS not Nuke, as im still trying to determine what VFX original poster was seeking.

all im saying is sometimes we can get good results (fast) inside the Quantel box and not have to import Nuke sequences. bit for VFX it usually doesnt make sense to tie up the Pablo when Nuke is indeed more affordable and an excellent (and yes, superior) compositing solution... agreed.

EDIT: What GFX card are you using? Are you on Windows I presume or Linux?

Our new reel will be up soon... via on our new website launching circa March 10th.

Hey Chris! From the stills it looks like a very interesting project indeed! I really like the style on this one... I will PM you!
