Hello everyone,

If anyone knows a good key grip with equipment looking for work, I will be flying in for a shoot at Time Square and Brooklyn Bridge area next week.

Basic package is needed such as HMI and generator to light a commercial shot, 4-5 sec shots, not film scenes. If the grip has access to a dolly we would rent it as well.

I have tried contacting NYC Film commission for a permit but they will not return my calls or emails, I will pay for permits through the grip if they can get them quickly.

This is not a large budget but a good commercial so please just PM. Also, two PA's and an assistant so let me know.

Cheers

Ed

Also, we may be shooting in Philly as well one of the days if possible.

Ed,

To shoot at Times Square, and/or the Brooklyn Bridge, you are going to need a very good location/production manager. If you can find someone to fill both hats, you are a lucky man. The mayors office does not do much over the phone and BTW ... a $300 permit fee is now assessed.

If you need a good Grip (and gear) in NYC, I can give you numerous names, but they will all require proper production insurance ... as will the city.

Good luck to you.

Thank you so much for the insight! In San Francisco permits are about the same and I do have an insurance carrier but I need the permit!

This is a very small production, only about six to eight people in the crew total and with minimal lighting. We need a shot with the talent walking at Time Square pulling out a cell phone. Simple 180 degree dolly move and a close up. Two hours at each location is about the time frame.

Yes, if you have any good Grips, please let me know.

Cheers

If you put a light on the ground, have more than 5 crew, hold pedestrian traffic, use prop weapons, or come with sound on a cart not in a bag,

then you need a permit. With insurance and $300. The mayors office turnaround may or may not get it done by your shoot this week. Brooklyn Bridge is easy to get away with shooting no permit, we did it for a major client back in May... just hope it's not a nice day, or you'll have a million gawking people in frame.

Good luck

Hey Ryan,

I am going to try very hard to shoot on the 3rd or maybe 4-6 but I need it done so what are my options. Maybe go stealth with some LED panels and a quick lock down? This is a little stressful since the Film Commission has not replied.

Cheers

Ed,

See if anyone at this company can help you.

http://www.isisrental.com/

They are specifically rentals for RED cameras and accessories. They may have the resources for what you are looking to do.

As for their prices, I am uncertain what the cost would be. I just came across them in a recent search.

Best of luck to you!

In NYC....

In NYC....

hey bud,
Im in NYC and deal with MOFTB. Feel free to reach out, will send pm.....

Hey Ed,

No permit required for a tripod. Handheld lights are also okay. It's putting gear on the ground--sound cart or lights--that gets them going. Bridges require major permits but I've shot on every bridge a few times and never seen anyone concerned with little ole' me, my AC, director and talent.

Good luck,
Ryan

Hello Ethan and Ryan, thank you so much for confirming everything. I received word from the Mayor's office and they even said "it does not seem like you may need a permit" but they did ask me to get the optional permit and read the entire guidelines for shooting in NYC. We will land it your wonderful city Thursday morning so if anyone would like to meet up, I will be in NYC till Sunday.

Cheers

Ed
