feature going for a month starting 10/29, they need a RED DIT that is also in the sound union.

PM me if you live in LA and are in 695 and you are also a DIT.

Data Capture Local 695

Data Capture Local 695

I believe that for union shoots DIT in now specifically 600 no?
So unless the person is in both unions...

Actually, my understanding is, although there has been some recommendation to the IATSE by the former outgoing leadership, this was never officially decided on and is still being worked out.

What remains certain is that DIT (by true definition - adjustment of live signals for calibrating cameras, monitors, etc.) is Local 600, and Playback for the Director/DP (Video Assist) is 695. Data Capture is not clearly defined...

So productions that would like to have Data Capture + the ability to playback takes for the Director or DP as one operator would need someone form Local 695. (Or they can have a separate Video Assist operator.)

Not trying to start a long debate on the matter, just stating the facts as I have heard them. Hopefully this will all get worked out before too long, but as far as I know, this is still up in the air.

It certainly is a grey area, but most productions hire under the title of DIT (For sure local 600) for the person that is doing both creative color consulting and data managing for the Red. At the moment a DIT can playback footage only for himself or for color/look references for the camera dept. Although in my experience this is almost always watched by everyone on set since the camera is hooked up to the playback monitors.

I suppose you could have a 695 member do playback from camera as long as he doesn't manipulate settings or consult with the DP about look or color. As far as the downloading of data I think that it is still covered by either the DIT position or the new "Downloader" position. I'm really not sure who has the final word on this but it seems logical that the original camera material stay with the camera department.

Hi Evin,

I can appreciate your perspective. Although, as I stated earlier, I 'm just going off of the facts I know and do not wish to debate the matter here. (as has been done in far too many threads).

What I was trying to convey was that, as far as I know, there has not been any official IATSE decision made, despite any recommendations that may have been made previously.
