I was going to put this in "Complaints", but it's really more of a question/ observation.
In Build 4, with the new (much better) interface, you can turn lookaround "on" or "off" in Modes.
If it's on, and you are shooting 4KHD, your EVF (and anything else with overlays) will correctly show framing for what is being recorded as r3d files on the SSD.
If you are using a PIX240 and desire a clean output for the editor's offline copy, the output of the camera to that device, when set to "clean", shows the entire area of the sensor, including what is NOT being recorded to the SSD.
Everything the editor (and anyone on set looking at a "clean" signal) sees will incorrectly show a wider shot than is actually being recorded.
What I want as far as monitoring goes:
1. I want lookaround in the EVF, so I see the boom mic BEFORE it dips into frame (just like we've had with film cameras for many years)
2. I want a clean, scaled 1080p output to record as an offline copy for the editor, CORRECTLY framed so it matches what is being recorded to the SSD
Is this impossible on the Epic? I cannot seem to make it happen, but maybe I'm just dense...
It is easily achieved on a certain camera from Germany, FYI...
Cheers,
Harry
