I'm not sure I understand the difference between the look presets and the look manager in RCX-P. Can someone explain when I'd use one and not the other?

A clip can have multiple looks associated with it -- the Look Manager shows you what looks are bound to the current clip in the Viewer (all the looks shown are saved into RMD flies).
The selected look in the Look Manager is the "primary look", that is, what you see in the Viewer is the clip with the primary look applied.

Look Presets, on the other hand, are not bound to any particular clip. Any clip can have a look preset applied to it.

So:
* Create a look preset if you want to save a particular look and later apply that look to other clips;
* Create a new look in the Look Manager if you're not quite sure what look a particular clip should have, and you want to quickly switch between different looks for that clip.

Most of the time you'll be working with look presets only.

So you can't apply a look from the look manager to another clip?

You cannot directly apply a look from the look manager to another clip. If you first save/add the look you've created in the "look manager" to the "look preset" panel, then you can apply that preset to any other clip in your project.

-The "saved" looks in the look manager only apply to the current clip loaded in the viewer. Each clip can have numerous different looks depending on how many you create/add, but are bound to that single clip currently in the viewer.
-The presets you create and save in the "look presets" panel can be applied to any clip in your project (based on what you set it to in the "Apply to:" drop down).

Hope this helps/clarifies a bit more for you Steve.
Thanks,

Armen
