Anyone know how to save a look to an SD Card and import the look into the camera?
I have done the following:

1.) Formatted an SD card (under 1 Gig) in Disk Utility, with MS-DOS-FAT designation.
2.) I have ingested footage into RED CINE X and applied a look.
3.) Inserted the SD card into a reader. Created a folder titled "PROFILES"
4.) Chosen FILE>Save current look to camera.
5.) Inserted the SD card into the RED ONE.
6.) Gone to VIDEO> LOOK> IMPORT
7.) Repeatedly gotten the response "NONE AVAILABLE"
8.) Created a look in Camera, tried to export to the SD card and it repeatedly says "Profile Export Failed: Verify the SD Card is not full and try again".
Anybody been in this boat?
What to do?
Many thanks,
Jason George.

Yes, it needs to be titled "PROFILES" in all capital letters.
Maybe our SD card reader (on the camera), but the SD card icon shows up on the LCD, so likely not that.....
Mysterious, and a drag.

Here is a thought.

Send some looks from the camera to the card.

Load the card on your computer.
When you have determined where those looks are on the SD card, then place the looks you have created in RC-X in the same folder.

In the past I have used no folders.

Many thanks to RED GENIUS Brent Craig, here is what you need to know about SD Cards as it relates to the Look Files and RED / REDCINE X, in other words, HOW TO FORMAT YOUR SD CARD!

1.)Formatting your SD card is critical.
Here are the steps, with a MAC.

1.) Insert the SD Card in a reader / into your MAC.
2.) Open Disk Utility.
3.) Choose the SD card as the Volume to work on (left hand menu).
4.) Click on ERASE tab at top.
5.) Under FORMAT, select MS-DOS (FAT)
6.) Title your Volume (SD CARD) ie. "LOOKS"
7.) Click Erase. (Make sure you have the SD Card selected, anything else could be devastating).
8.) After your SD card is erased, make sure it is selected again and click on Partition.
9.) In the Partition window, under Volume Scheme, select 1 Partition.
10.) At the bottom of that window, click on Options and select MASTER BOOT RECORD
11.) Under the Volume Information , type in your name and then select the format, again, MS-DOS (FAT)
12.) Verify you are working on your SD card (not your computer's drive!) and click the Apply button at the bottom.

Your card should be ready to go.

Important to note that the card must be less than a gig!

Once finished this process, you need to make a folder on the card that says PROFILES (in all capital letters). It is here that you save your look to, from the FILE> SAVE LOOK TO CAMERA menu in REDCINE X.

Also a note on the whole look-management process, I had selected "CLEAR" in the VIDEO>LOOK menu in the RED CAM. It did not clear my old look, no matter how many times I clicked. I rebooted the camera and it reset to the factory look, but then I tried it again, it failed, and so I went into VIDEO>VIEW, toggled between RAW AND REDCOLOR and it reset to factory, (after I had cleared it). So this is something to be cautious of, as you may want to get back to the factory look after having made some subtle adjustments and think that you have, and all the meanwhile you have been viewing a look that didn't clear!

Definitely something to practice with and watch out for.

Thanks Brent and thanks Jason.

Amazing that this whole process is not better documented. This is one of the great advantages of RED - being able to upload looks. Many of us have been asking for a reliable and intuitive way of doing this for years now.

Why hasn't RED closed this loop? I imagine it is a relatively simple thing to do?

It's gotta be simpler than finding Epic bugs! ;-)

Yes indeed. Luckily I had just gone through this process a few days before Jason called me. I was surprised there was no info on Reduser about how to properly format an SD card for the camera.

I'm sure there is a simple command you can type in Terminal to do this, but when it comes to formatting drives there is always the risk of wiping the wrong one so I like the Disk Utility method as it is harder to mess up.

I think Windows users can format the SD cards much more simply, can anyone confirm?

It would be a nice option to add to the camera!

Thanks for the walk-through Jason, that is awesome.

We are having a hard time finding SD cards that are less than a gig. Ha, imagine saying that 7 years ago... How crucial is it that the SD card be under a gig? Can't I just create a FAT32 partition that is less than a gig when I do the formatting?

This could be one of the better features of RED, but they've just left it alone for some reason. Although if it did work, it might help if the video tap looked similiar to what ended up in your computer.
Maybe proper execution of loading looks on camera is an Epic/Scarlet feature only.

Great.

Great.

Thank you.
I was going crazy looking for it. (a project with 2 cameras, and a special look that they need see on set...)
the problem mybe sounds like, Red sold his owns SD cards... formated, of course...

Perhaps is not a bad idea to have in your "Look SD card" a CLEAR Look first of all.

Regards. Thank you. I´ll try right now.

That is one seriously conflated process.

I'm scared of terminal, I know there are some people well versed in it and think that those who don't know it are, well, lesser beings but the hazard of wiping the drive doesn't sit well with me.
