  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We're looking into doing a heli tour and the camera would be on a external mount so we figured we'd set it to record hop in and let the card run out. Is this safe? Is there a safety threshold of what the camera can endure in running time?

Should be fine, just check your fan settings. If it's set to hold a lower fan speed during record (like 30%-40%) you could run into overheating problems. Setting it manually to say 75% should keep everything nice and cool.

I've left my camera taking time lapse shots for hours... as Hudson indicated, just keep an eye on your temps.

I've shot over 60 minutes continuously (one shot) at 8:1 without it having to stop. We only stopped when the first act finished. We were inside a theatre (not under the sun or anything). No problems.

Not sure what happens to the clip when the card finishes. In the past, I know that this last clip would get corrupt because it didn't not get closed (when you hit stop). Not sure about the current firmware.

Depending on your build, if you run out you might loose the whole take. As the epic/scarlet goes to zero before giving a writeout code. Where the redone stopped at 2% for the writeout code. The newest builds does stop the camera far enough at 0% to do a writeout code but older builds don't. So do test a whole card from 100-0% before you fly.

You might be able to stay connected to the camera via REDlink with the RED iPad application or Mikael's Foolcontrol app.

technically the answer is this.

on a 512 GB card.

at 5kFF

at 24FPS

@18:1 360 minutes
@8:1 160 minutes

Dragon 6K FF same settings

8:1 99minutes
22:1 272 minutes

you can let the card run out, but I would test it on a small card with the lowest compression setting to see what happens before you fly.

Cheers,

You guys are the best! We ended up going out of a cessna and everything came out amazing running at 120 fps. I did cut at 1% just to be safe.

Thanks again,

D
