Hello guys.
I need some advice, I'm creating a very very light steadicam rig with the red one camera
very similar to this setting
even lighter without the follow focus and upper rods, I also put the camera monitor in the lower part of the rig....
but I need cables now!!! I need an 1meter long extension for the battery cable and an extention (or a longer cable)
for the monitor... (the longer monitor cable from red.com is still too short)
I found on the forum something about LEMO connectors but surely I can't build a cable from connectors.
can you give me some advice?
thank you
Maicol

Yes of course I know that red sell this 4 foot cable but I think will be better a custom cable about 140 cm long. there any way to get it?
and what about the power cable extension?

Well FWIW, it's not that far off. Four feet is about 122 cm. Diiference is about 7 inches. I just got the 4 foot cable and it's plenty long for my set-up. YMMV

yes may be is enough but in this case we are about to spending 270$ for a 122cm cable, I wondering if I can have a custom 140cm cable at similar price,
I try to traslate an italian proverb "into the more there is the less" ahah I don't know if this can be understood :)

anyway I think the bigger problem is to keep the battery in very low part of the rig,
the monitor is not so heavy and can stay a little bit higher with no problem.

I'm really new to this kind of rig and I'm trying to make work a custom build steadicam from a "crazy" friend of mine,
the rig is now already working with no bad result but I'm really confident that with the battery in the low part of it will be more stable.
I also need a lot of training to get used to this kind of shooting mode.....

From everything I have seen on this forum about Lemo connectors, they tend to be very expensive - especially for anyone only buying in small quantities - and so the length of the cable really has little to do with the end cost. If you have to have 140cm, then you can probably get one made but chances are that the "custom" approach will cost you more, not less. Hope you find what you need!

anyway..... for the monitor cable we will take into consideration to buy the one from red.com but I did not see any proposal from red.com about the battery extension cable.
I think that it do not exist. so we need to valutate some other solution... any suggestion is welcome!

I am in the same situation - I'd ask Jason ay Cinema Oxide or Ryan at WC to make you a plate with a custom-length cable. That's what I am probably going to do.

EDIT: Actually, Cinema Oxide offers long cables on their web site, here:

4 ft is plenty enough. How far do you want your monitor away from your face?

Use any IDX plate on the base and do like the chap in your photos did. D-Tap to 4pin xlr then 4pinxlr to your RED. I have done this many times to power the front camera on 3D Steadicam.

HI Maicol,

I already made you the cable you requested that I make for you. But if you'd also like a custom battery plate, we can make them for Epic/SCarlet and Red One.

On my steadicam, it uses V-mount batteries- so I just slide a RED brick in and it works great. Got a steadicam-to-RED power cable, too, from B&H.

Finally, for now I'm slinging the 4' monitor cable down to the bottom, where instead of the steadicam monitor I am (again, for NOW) using the RED 5.6inch monitor... just unscrew the steadicam monitor and screw in the RED.

I guess you guys' rigs don't take v-mount batts?

My rig does not have built in battery mount. I am looking to drop the RED brick to the bottom for better weight distribution. Need a plate with about a 4 foot cable. I saw thomas-english's post above regarding D-tap, which is interesting. As for a monitor, I got a 4 foot RED LCD/EVF and plan to run my touchscreen as well.

Just power the MX from the rig and use the SSD, flys nice

In my case, the issue is putting together a set-up that allows me to power from the bottom of the rig. Mine is not a Steadicam but a Zolinger which is configured more like a Glidecam - not battery plate built in.

hello ... I have a question/input for you all....
why not to use an android 4 tablet with an hdmi port for the red one in the steadycam rig?
a low cost tablet will be less expensive than a monitor (or less expensive than a red cable) and with android may be many possibility of a custom fantastic applet to control the rig or the red one..... dreaming???
