Hi everybody, after last tests (and your very kind request/suggestions/mails) I'm ready to sell my custom cables for LCD/EVF and DRIVE. Here are the first official pics too!!

These are the models I'm going to sell:

- DRIVE cable 0,5m/18inch
- DRIVE cable 3m/10ft
- LCD&EVF cable 0,5m/18inch
- LCD&EVF cable 5m/16ft
- LCD&EVF cable 10m/32ft

All lengths are all 100% tested and functionally. As you can see from the pics, in DRIVE cables I use ONLY "straight" connector, and not the 90 degrees ones. The reason is to keep the best price possible. Infact, "angled connectors" are more expensive thant straight ones.

In the pics (sorry for the "home made" working shots!!) you can see all the cable models and the RED working with my custom cables too.

Please, fell free to ask me every kind of info, questions or specifications!!!

ASAP the ebay auctions will be ready, I'll post here!

Thanks to everybody!!

Michele

No... how can be "Red-certified" if RED doesn't give LCD&DRIVE connectors specs?!...

Please someone can explain me what do you mean with "Red-certified"?...

Michele

It means that Red has approved their sale and it won't affect warranty repairs.

For example, if an LCD or Red Drive fails, they may not fix it under warranty, siting that it could be a third party accessory that potentially caused the problem.

You should ask Jarrod if they would be willing to "bless" your cables, and send him some samples.

They look great, and extremely useful! Well done.

Hi Jim, thanks for your reply!.
I'll contact RED soon, but if a camera is out of warranty period, I think this "certification" is not so important...

Besides, I'm testing these cables everyday for hours, when I'll start to sell I'll be sure (I'm sure right now!) they will be 100% working.

Hi Michele,

No problem at All, I'm sure you will have great success with them.

Beyond warranty, it would probably give buyers peace of mind that they won't be up for expensive repairs or lose upgrade options because of it.

This happened a couple of years ago with third party lens mounts for Red. A few unlucky users lost their ability to upgrade their camera to Epic because of it.

WOW Awesome job!

I don't really see how Red could know that you were using "these" cables if infact your LCD or EVF went down for some reason.. Unless you were advertising it on the site.. But seriously, how would that void the warranty or your Epic standing?? It's just a cable.. Couldn't hurt though to get them on your side.. good luck!

Hi Perry, thanks for your reply!!

DRIVE 3m/10ft 199€ / 256$
LCD&EVF 0,5m/20inch 99€ /127$
LCD&EVF 5m/16ft 149€ / 191$
LCD&EVF 10m/32ft 199€ / 256$

Shipping (from Italy) is not included.

Ciao Ketch, grazie per i complimenti!!!!... sono giorni ormai che ho la RED accesa SEMPRE per i vari test... tutto sembra andare molto bene!!!

3rd party cables.

3rd party cables.

I will repeat what I said on the other thread, i.e. RED does not publish the pin outs for LCD / EVF or RED-DRIVE / RED-RAM cables.

In addition to digital video / data, these cables carry power and control signals to the peripheral devices.

Any compromise in voltage or signal rise time - especially at the end of a long cable run - risks loss of performance, loss of data, and potentially equipment damage.

By using a non-RED supplied cable you also open up the possibility of violating FCC or equivalent authority emissions regulations.

Bottom line is : PURCHASE AT YOUR OWN RISK. These cables are of unknown quality and not approved by RED.

By using third party cables you may void your warranty for the camera and attached LCD / EVF / RED-DRIVE / RED-RAM.

Hi Stuart, thank you for your kind clarification!!
I'm sure every RED user with items under warranty will think about it (or use my cables without saying to RED...). Maybe if you'd offer more than one year of warranty (on digital media and batteries ONLY 90 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!), more users won't buy my cheaper cables...

I'm only very very sorry I don't find the same mood of the faq in your words:

Does RED recommend the use of third party accessories?

RED values the support of third party manufacturers and welcomes the addition of many products hitting the market to join the RED Revolution. Although we don't authorize or put our "seal of approval" on all accessories, we certainly encourage the creative process that generates new items that we haven't even thought of. The ultimate decision of purchase is left to the consumer.

Please

Michele

Hello Michele,

I'd like to order two 18inch drive cables. Can you let me know how to arrange this? And how long to get to California?

Thank you!
