Don't have my cam in front of me and was asked a question about doing long exposures on a Dragon - like 2 minutes or so. Can this be done, how, and are their issues with hot pixels etc?

issues, at least on dsmc1 , even 1 sec exposures are hardly useable.... if you're on auto temperature ive seen footage breath a pink hue as the fans kick in and out to regulate that temp.... some hot pixels as well.... i feel comfortable using maybe 1/8 to 1/2 second exposure but image is too poor for me after that

Dang! Thanks for the info

Look into trying frame averaging mode with the longer exposures and average 4 frames. If you use summing you can simulate long exposures (up to 16 seconds) but make sure you blackshade.

I use 1 sec exposures all the time on dmc1 never had a issue with hot pixels or hue change, Frame summing is a dark art, could never make it work and that hue change happenens. But normal 1sec exposure and 360' shutter is beautiful

Thanks guys! They are going to probably go with Phase One IQ260 for this project since it can expose up to 60 minutes noise free raw 60mb/16bit. Was hoping to put the RED to work but horses for courses 'n such. Was worth a shot.

How are you guys using the RED for Time Lapse? Can an external invo be used? Love the CamRanger invo product on my Nikon

ya anything beyond a second its better to go with a dslr. no need for an intervalometer there is a timelapse mode in the camera.

You can get better results by NOT using Time-lapse mode on Nikon. Time-lapse mode writes a movie file. Writing out RAW nef files and using LRTimelapse with Lightroom will give you far better results.

Yup

I use a Mark Roberts moco rig for moving shots and it does the triggering.

For no moving TL I use reds internal tools.
