  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LOMO oks1-150-1 and oks9-150-1 differencs

Marcian Lazar asked me about the difference between LOMO oks1-150-1 and oks9-150-1 lenses.

oks9-150-1 is s16mm lens, and only a few people know it, and no seller describes that, knowing s35 would sell better aha a haha h

Still as always the devil is in the details.
Lets's check the grafs and the description:

Take a look at resolution plot. You see, regular 1-150-1 has resolution of 48 lp/mm in the center, and almost the same at 5mm distance from the center.
So fallof happens at 10mm from the center.

While 9-150-1 falls off earlier, having 50 lp/mm center and 30 lp/mm at 5.5mm from the center.
So the latter has more pronounced sharpness fallof being designed for s16.

That being said, you know, this tele Tair lens design of professor Volosov usually covers much more (oks1-150-1 covers medium fromat (!),
and oks9-150-1 will cover s35 for sure, but as you guys understand there is no free cookies so oks9-150-1 will have not so sharp outer area for that format.
Still I did not test it by my own, and only the test can show what actually happens at the edge of oks9-150-1 on s35, cause soviet 30lp/mm is actually quite okay resolution.

All in all 9-150-1 is the late 80-s design, has multi-coating, it will give you modern neutral look.
What is more, the NIKFI books says oks9-150-1 has APOCHROMATIC correction. APO, guys!

oks7-200-1 and 6-300-1 (also s16mm lenses) is APO too.

Some say that regular OKS1-150-1 whilst being a s35 lens, can cover the larger format. So the question arises for those forming a 65/70mm set: can it be used instead of the native 65mm format OKS2-150-1?

Well, as for oks1-150-1 vs 2-150-1 it is well...I suggest you guys to buy both and see since 1-150-1 is a widespread lens. Both are nice lenses. Besides, I'm not pretty sure about how exactly OKS1-150-1 covers 65mm: you see, it will most probably cover (if you unscrew the back hood) the large format, but what exactly happens at the outer image areas, that I do not know. I just expect the rise of distortion, as for astigmatism, probably not, it should be more or less corrected. 1-150-1 is 4 element Tair lens by its design formula so expect some little pillow distortion (like 1% for s35 and ~2% or a bit more for the large format, that is considered OKAY and not noticeable by the regular viewer). What 1-150-1 boasts is that it has almost zero spherical aberration, whist 2-150-1 as a planar has some and that looks like loss of contrast and a tiny bit of white blooming of veil when wide open, that's typical to any planar, even the modern ones.

As for 2-150-1 it is hell rare and if you find one consider that a miracle (that's why I suggested to get 1-150-1). 2-150-1 is a double gauss lens like Planar with classic 6 elements in 4 components. Should be better in resolution and apparent sharpness compared to 1-150-1. Besides, it is literally distortion free.

Both have pretty good astigmatism control.
