  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Here I'd share some nice papers on various USSR-made Anamorphics.

ЦКБК — is CKBK (CKB MK in 1960-s, or НПО "ЭКРАН" EKRAN in 1990-s, or Optica Elite now), or Central Design Bureau of Cinematography, in St. Petersburg, made pre-series prototype batches of several samples before they give all the papers to LOMO for mass-production.

НАС — NAS, a front anamorphic attachment, a separate piece with its own focusing mechanism and ring, sits in front of a basic spherical lens to which it has some sort of ring and spring connection. Early models of USSR anamorphic science, known as LOMO Squarefronts.

БАС — BAS, an anamorphic lens unit in one housing. A step forward compared to NAS, since it is a one piece unit, with one focusing ring in front of the lens. Most (but not all: early ones are square, as well as advanced 22mm and 35mm late models) are roundfronts since the front spherical dioptric/focusing component is round.

Naming convention:
35BAS2-2 — 35 means film format, BAS is ana lens mono unit, 2 is a number of optical calculation of a given family (here anamorphics; means here 2, an early bird), -2 gives us the housing / mount modification.
For NAS all is the same, except NAS itself as an attachment.

I'll start with teles. They are mainly advanced Tairs as a basic lens (like OKS1-150-1 or OKS1-200-1 etc), then in front sits classical 2/2 anamorphic system, and at last the face is a round focusing compensator, — when you focus you just increase/decrease the air gap between its two elements. Thing to notice is the ultra light weight, especially compared to the lenses' size. USSR design school was very strict and successful on that.

As usual, left click opens in new tab in high resolution.

Eheheh :-) thx, Tommaso

The more I publish here the more I doubt either anyone needs it at all or either reduser is alive compared to let's say Instagram

Though it seems many use LOMOS, but they do not post samples and experience here:-(

Please share your knowledge on Lomo/Ekran/CKBK lenses. One of my favorite topics!

Mike

Hey guys, let's revive this thread:-)

Any questions?

Or plz share moving images!
