Hi all,

Finland's Loikka dance film festival is once again looking for 4K dance films for its next festival edition. The open call deadline is October 31st 2015, and further info can be found here: http://loikka.fi/stereoscopic-3d-4k-films/

4K films are also exempt from the usual entry fee. For further questions, feel free to PM!

P.S. Also looking for 3D dance pieces so stereoscopic filmmakers please take note!

Cheers

Hello Thomas,

Thanks for the info. I can put some recent showcase footage to good use. I often do work with a dance company in Philadelphia US.

We will have a dance film ready (4k 3D) for next year edition.... ;-) will it continue?
I am shooting with Gilles Jobin his 3D dance project in december 2015. It won't be ready in time... as it will be finished close to the festival screening in April...

PS: Is the 250MB/s limit for DCP encoding problematic to get 4k in 3D? How does this higher image compression lower visually the image quality? Did you do some technical tests?

Super! Hopefully, the 4K and 3D screenings will continue in upcoming years too, though it all depends on whether there's enough great content coming in to make up a full screening... as it does this year as well, so send them in y'all! It all depends on you guys out there.

As for 3D 4K, definitely sounds cool - I've done stuff in 3D and 4K but not at the same time, so can't really say as to the image quality... Nor have we screened 3D 4K at the festival, the two screenings we've had this and last year were a combination of 2K 3D and 4K 2D (now that's a lot of abbreviations right there). But personally I would think 125 MB/s per eye JPEG 2000 encoding would be plenty, especially since I understand the 250 MB/s figure in the DCI 4K spec was originally designed to enable 3D in 4K.... Looking forward to trying it out though.
