I shoot lots of surfing, in fact i've shot surfing for 40 years. I'm using my Red Epic Weapon shooting 5K 96FSP & 6K at 80FPS. After a long day, i go back download the data then open up Red Cine-X Pro, cull the shit clips, grade the good stuff, take snap shots of the gold which i use as a reference plus for social media. But i wish to log the action as I go. So when I drag the data into FCX or Premiere it shows up.
Plus when I am looking for a specific wave/surfer I can find it. Any suggestions??
PS Here's a edit & shoot i did from last Sunday. Enjoy

Hi Tim,
i'm trying to solve this problem too. When shooting surfing action there's no time to enter metadata in action (with Foolcontrol for IOS for example I imagine).
I know it is possible to mark frames while shooting. The markers will be visible in camera playback and RCX.You can assign a key to "Record: Mark Frame".
Can we record simultaneus our voice explaining the current subject while shooting? It won't be in the metadata but helps.
Sorry if it do not help or if it is out of your subject.
Marc

Thanks Marc. Im only interested in logging anything after the shoot not during.
If Red only had a software like Sony's Catalyst Browse..

I think a custom Filemaker Pro database could do this -- it's just a question of what specific criteria you needed for each shot.

Pilotware is a standalone web-based system that can work and is being used by documentary and reality producers I know:

The question is how complex you want to make it, how much data entry is involved, and what the time & budget will be on it.

Walter Murch's approach is extremely complex but thorough:

Tim, I'm not sure I'm following you. Are you saying you want to grade in REDCINE-X first and make notes there that carry over to FCPX? Are you opposed to opening the R3Ds in FCPX and doing your keywording/notes there and then going into Redcine-X or Resolve and grading the shots you want to use? Just trying to understand exactly what it is you want to do.

If you're logging for longterm storage of media, and clips are each of one or two surfers rather than long uninterrupted takes of multiple surfer, then Foolcat might be a good solution. Marc has been assisting me with similar issues, but my footage is long take interviews.
