Hi

I'm new to RED FCP workflow, but I've done my hours of research and I think I'm going to try the FCP/Crimson/REDcine route.

I have about 1/1.5 hours of footage that I'm making a 2-3 min film. I have one question. Can I move the proxies out of their folders and change their names? I'm basically after ways of how other people log their rushes, as am I right in assuming that if I change names or move clips from their original folder that will have implications later on with this particular workflow?

Thanks

Phil

You should never change the names of the files themselves. You can, however, change the names of the corresponding clips in the FCP browser. Final Cut will still refer to the same files, and Crimson will still work.

At our shop, ever since the first generation of P2 footage came out, we trained our AE's to get into the habit of leaving the root name alone and only changing the scene/take/shot/reel numbers; as P2 evolved we weened them off of that, but it's still a good habit to be in so that there's is always a direct visual reference to the original source name; i can't tell you how often that comes in handy.

If you put a comment column right next to the name column in the Browser, you can sort of rename the clip using that column instead of the actual name column. You can even drag it so close to the left that it covers most of the name...

It keeps the clip names always the same as the originals. FCP uses clip names for it's auto reconnection routines, and so it's really best practice to not change the names of the files from what the cameras assigned to them.

I concur with Jerry. Use another field for renaming the clips and leave original alone.

Is there anyway to log clips for FCP, outside of FCP?
