  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi. I recently used log & transfer in FCP and for some reason it cut the ends of some files. As much as 2 minutes were missing on some files.
I re-captured/transferred the media and then it was fine.
Anyone have an idea why this happens?
Sorry if this is a repost. Couldn't find anything using search.

same porblem but I can't fix

same porblem but I can't fix

I have successfully log and transferred 4K 2:1 (25fps) footage no problem.

But now I'm having problems doing this with some 2K 2:1 shoot at 50fps.

Steps
- open log and transfer
- all the clips appear however in the L&T preview the second half of the clip can't be played - it goes to a white screen
- when you transfer into FCP (Prores) you only get the first half of the clip

Also having shot 50fps I assumed that when you play teh converted clip in a 25fps timeline that the clip would play at half real-time speed i.e. at 50%.

If I play the proxies in quicktime the whole clip plays (but at 100% real time speed. So all the info is there.

Any tips???

How was the 50fps footage shot? If you open the clips in RedCine, do they play back at 25fps properly? Was it shot with the Project Timebase at 25fps with the Varispeed option at 50fps?

ah yes - dumb ass mistake!
Was shooting surfing in a housing and in my hurry to get out there set the project frame rate as 50fps instead of going into Varispeed.
stupid :clown2:

Ok I've read the manual and have got a grip on this...... is there anything I can do apart from actually cutting all the 50fps material up into individual frames!?!?!??

Also - and now it gets confusing - when I open the 50fps stuff up in RedCine, the metadata reads 24.00 fps....... ??

EDIT/UPDATE: exporting through RedCine works ok for all 50fps material. And according to gunleik (see post below) RedCine (mistakenly) reads everything as 24fps.

Ok I've read the manual and have got a grip on this...... So let's say my DoP recorded the 50fps stuff with a Project Timebase of 50fps, instead of 25fps with the Varispeed set to 50fps..... aside from the fact that this really shouldn't have happened, is there anything I can do apart from actually cutting all the 50fps material up into individual frames!?!?!??

You could use Cinema Tools to force the transcoded quicktimes to 25fps, or you can re-transcode in REDCINE forcing all the clips to 25fps and in a 25fps project. I think that might work. Certainly the Cinema Tools route will work, although your timecode may be incorrect.

Yeah, I've had to just export it all thru RedCine... kind of a pain. Especially since the interface takes a bit of getting used to. The first export I tried just threw all the rushes into one clip.... very unhelpful.

A little off topic but I'd like to get this sorted: so if the metadata, in RedCine, reads 24.00fps, then that is most certainly, no doubt, what it was recorded at on the day?

Nope.

RC is a buggy little stupid thing, and thinks we all shoot @ 24 fps all the time, unless we tell it otherwise...

Assimilate!

aaahhh.... cool thanks. that takes a load off my mind.

it's a good thing the RED images are so beautiful, otherwise no one in their right mind would put up with all this stuff... and yes, i know it's still beta etc. etc.
