Would be interesting to see someone make a Youtube channel or something where they present old movies in their entirety like that.
Doh, my main memory of Moviolas is when they'd grind up a workprint and compress 50 feet of film into a tiny packet about an inch thick. Or split the entire film in half. God help you if you had to work on a stand-up Moviola that was poorly maintained.
The flatbeds were fine, the KEMs were fine, and the Steenbecks were fine. But parts are scarce today, though you can sometimes find a full machine for $50 on eBay. The shipping will kill you -- easily hundreds of dollars by truck.
And that brings back memories of the oily coatings on workprints put through our Moviolas. Believe me, the flatbeds were a lot better. Getting parts for any of this crap today is a nightmare. My Moviolas are really gentle on filmlike butter. Make sure you oil them good every 10,000 feet and you won't have any issues.
